Hi All, First time here after purchasing a 2008 SRT8 Jeep last week, its my 4 th Jeep but first SRT8. It has 37,000 km(23000miles) and I only bought it 6 days ago and drove it from Sydney (Australia) to Perth(Aust) or about 2400 miles.

Anyhow have noticed a bit of a weird noise coming from the transfer case motor(?), when the engine is turned off, its not overly loud, cant really hear it with the doors closed but there is a buzzy, clicky noise from the transfer motor, it does it for about 3 or 4 seconds after the engine stops, and it doesnt seem to do it all the time. I have placed my hand on the tc motor, with a helper turning engine off and its definately coming from there as I can feel it, it may also be doing it on start up but not as severe, its harder to tell as the engine is cranking/starting. Theres no noise when engine is running, no check lights, fault codes, all else is good and truck runs awsome. I got with the car a predator tuner, so I have ran the stock tune and the cai tune and there is no difference, noise is still randomly there.

I never noticed the noise until a day ago after the long trip home. Is this normal? Any ideas?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Cheers mate

The noise is normal, its been around since 2006. There is a tripple planetary reduction drive motor that moves a lever inside the transfer case. When you shut the car off, there is a delay and then the motor engages for a short period.

The search function on this forum is very robust, there have been many many threads about this phenomenon.

Well done, thanks for the prompt reply.

Ok, the first few days of using the car any shut down wouldve been windows up, doors shut, and likely stereo on. First noticed it with both front doors and roof open, so had to ask the q.
These rigs certianly have an elaberate computer system to get your head around.

You guys have a great site here with lots of great info so will check out the search function but pick your brains for some future mods on my Jeep and hopefully put in where I can. Thanks again.

Cheers
