So I heard a rumor........

I was at one of my car get togethers here in Michigan, and was informed that the Crank in the new 6.4's will not hold any boost, and that Chrysler is working on making a boost happy engine by taking the crank out of the previous generation 6.1 creating a 6.2. Has anyone else heard anything like this?

One of the engines they are testing is a S/C 6.2L. There are some 6.4L running boost right now in some Challengers. How long they will last is the unknown but I heard the problem was the heads.
And I heard this from an SRT Engineer. Are the 6.4 Challengers running a 2010 pcm to tune it then?
Interesting.... No boost is NO fun.

Subscribed as well.

Yes they are.
So, you spend 3k to re-wire, and lose some new functions, just to tune??
Yes. And then you blow up your motor. Sound like fun ?
Hmmmmm. Subscribed. That is interesting.

Have you heard of this happening yet? How many 6.1s met the same fate? Seems hypocritical.
in for update.
Aren't the 6.4 cranks forged? That shouldn't be the weak spot. If it's like the 6.1s, the weak link is still those hypereutectic pistons.

Nobody defines the word forged anymore.. a lot of oem manufacturers say its forged and in most cases its a coating..
true, but the OEM 6.1 crank is bad ass. It is superior to most aftermarket stroker cranks. So much so that I stuck with an OEM 6.1 crank when building my new motor

Time will tell, supposedly Arrington will be releasing Supercharger within the next couple of months once they can fully tune the 6.4. Max boost between 6-8.
Procharger and Vortech as well....it'll be interesting to see where this goes.
So this will be wildly disappointing as my plan was to buy a 2012 in about a year and a half and supercharge it. The CTS-V is starting to look more and more like my next ride.
