Well i have had the rear end whine since day 1 and i no most of you have had the same thing so it has started to get louder so i took it in and there going to put in new gears and bearings. There did say if it still does it they will do the front gears & bearings. After 41,500 miles the wife said hey take it in lol.

My 06 5.7 Limited has the same issue... whine that got worse and worse until it was to loud to talk over. Took it in, they replaced and rebuilt it and all was fine.

Too bad they do not have 4.10's to put in there for you Jim... might get you into the 7.8's or 7.7's next time in Irwindale :)

I DONT think i can go that fast on 91 octane with my race wt.
Will be looking to see how this turnss out Jim. I know over the years most have said its normal & a few have not but I can tell you this. My '08 did it very rarely, my wife's has never done it & the blue '09 does it alot. Will be interesting to see what the new motor & SC makes the rear do in the blue one.

I think this problem is a lot like the bad smell problem some get & some don't because only 1 of the 3 of mine have had it, same gas driven the same way.

He drove it with me and said its louder than most he has done and he did drain a little oil out and said for 41,500 miles and never been changed it was pertty clean.
Well i went to check on my new gears and they had to pull it apart again as they needed to put in more shims to get the pinion gear back farther in the ring gear to get a full pattern as it was off a tat and the whine was at lower speeds instead of higher speeds. They showed me the old gear wear pattern and it needed to go back into the ring gear 1/4 inch more to get a full pattern thats why they were whining at higher speeds.
That is very interesting Jim. Wonder if that is the true cause of the rearend whine? It would make sense IMO based on the 3 I have/do own. 1 don't, 1 did rarely & 1 does alot of the time. Meaning even though they should be shimmed perfectly from the factory we know that isn't going to happen everytime. Thanks for posting an update.

I think this is what my rear end was doing. I noticed the whining noise mostly when I pull the rear seats. I guess the rear seats muffle the sound a bit. Also, after I did a few runs at the track and everyhting started heating up I could really hear the rear end whining. It got so bad I stopped racing for the night a few times...

Im thinking this whining noise I heard led to my pinion eventually snapping.

I'll (hopefully not) verify this in a few months. The one of mine that does it the worst is the one thats getting the motor & SC.

when they pulled the cover off they didnt find and metal and said the oil was clean for having 41,600 miles on it.
^ not sure exactly what your saying.

I was watching when they opened up my rear diff. The fluids were covered in metal... But my rear end was broken, so I would think the fluids would be pretty bad after a rear diff fails.
Get you an LSD and replace all the bearings?

Im not putting out that much power and thats a lot of money for no 60' gain with the power i have.
Ok, then how bout just replace all the bearings?

They replaced all the bearings under warranty. The gears came in without a crushed sleeve so they had to get 1 so mine wont be ready until mon. He did say the back lash was set at 7 thousands from the factory and there suppose to be 6 to 8 so that was ok.
Just had the same service done about two weeks ago under warranty. It got rid of about 80% of the whine which is great but I don't think it can be fully cured. I am still experiencing clunking though, probably worn U-joints. Maybe changing the T-Case and front end gears might do the trick.
Ok when we tested the jeep b4 they changed the gears it did sound like the whine was coming from both the front and rear so he decided to do the rear 1st and he got it done today and the whine went away in the rear but now you can hear it from the from so he went ahead and ordered a new gear set for the front. Well anyway i got the front & rear ends serviced lol. Ill let you no when i get the front done as the gears will be in this week so he said bring it in next monday night.
Well they got the gears out of the front pumpkin and the wear pattern was worse than the rear gears were. No wonder they were whining. You have to remember the DANA CO were the ones that set the gears up not chrysler. Ill keep you updated as they should be done tomorrow.
Wonder if any of the guys running big power, Bill excluded, have ever checked theirs.

They asked me if he did it when you 1st bought it then why did you wait till 42,000 miles to get it looked at. I said this way i get 2 free axel housing services and a new crush sleeve and bearings lol. That alone is 300 bux just to pull the cover and replace the oil.
