Motor died yesterday

Was pulling into a driveway and it died. Won’t start. Just cranks. P2172 code. I’m thinking a spring broke. Dropped it at my buddy’s shop and will dig in not it. 72k. Funny thing is I just drove it to Fla. to compete in Mshs and had no problems. Dam 6.4’s suck

Yooooo that's great news ..... but that is just the block are the heads good? Is it a full block not bare?

Hahahh........ yea l know that bad taste ........ l bought my jeep modified couldn't beat the price so l said f it. ....... thankfully running like a chanp with 88k miles....... had my mechanic go thru it he said it's solid. I just need a re tune clean up the tune for the motor and Trans.
Got the Jeep back tonight
Brand new 6.4, intake to pan
Total out of pocket $1125.
Odds and ends the warranty didn’t cover. 3 year 100,000 mile warranty on motor from mopar and still have my Zurich till 2024
0 deductible
Ins covered cost of $8250 for motor and $4000 labor
Not bad.
Wife says it’s seems to have more pep

Had the new motor in for about 6-7000 miles now and guess what? It’s sitting in my driveway till 12/18. Yup don’t start. Died on the road. Had to have it towed to my house because the dealer is backed up till dec.
no crank. I think it blew again. I have a p2172 code. 6.4’s suck

Renfrick, What caused the original issue and current issue- Lifter, Spring, Valve?
I had a Lifter go just after Warranty expired( although brought in in Twice with Lifter knock while still under Warranty)
Sure Enough yep #6 Lifter went.
Instead of spending nearly the same Coin for a Stock 6.4, had BES and HHP build me one. (obviously spent a bit extra for better engine)
MDS Lifters definitely a week link with 6.4L.
I highly recommend installing non-MDS Lifters

Sorry to hear that, I've had a p2172 & p2173. Motor starts but dies within seconds. Turned out to be 1 intake valve spring broken.

Hey Mornin , pls tell me about Non Mds Lifters pls ? I currently have a p0307 Cyl 7 misfire.. Bitch runs fine 80-90-100 Np just have a Stumble at idle.. Stopped by dealer and texh says he thinks its the Lifters and i need a top end rebuild. Headed to dealer in an hr for appt to get a real diag. Im Pray its just a Coil or injector but… 46k on her and i take care of her better thann my Gf! No Warr either itsa 2014 only reason ima go thru dealer is for Warr on new parts but what other Opt’s do i have??

Any help would be great !

LI- NON mds lifters in an auto equipped ride need to have a tune. No way around it. I had an mds lifter fail on me, but it wasn't the "normal" failure we typically hear about where it wipes the cam out. I decided I was going to switch to non mds until I saw the cost (me doing all the work) over $2k. So I went with factory replacements. The new lifters are all "hellcat" lifters. They have larger rollers in the tip. All new hemis (after 2016) have these lifters. I also hope your engine issue is a coil or injector, but I'd be willing to wager its valvetrain related, and mechanical. Your descriptive sounds like a typical wiped cam lobe from my experience...

Thank’s for the Info. So i dropped her off yest. Tech says most likely it’s a valve from cyl. 7 and that reason the faster i go the less i feel it is cause the engine is spinning so fast that its doesn't have time to Sputter. He say’s most likely its top end only since there is no noise from the cam at all. He looked up parts for only one side of eng. Cyl 1.3.5.7 the complete head was bout $1200 and labor was bout $1800 at $250 p hr Fml..Then some more parts (Gaskets Oil change and Bs) so like 4k+ But that’s w the exist factory cam and not touching the other side of eng. leaves me open to this happen on the other side ltr down the road Rt? To do both Side’s from STEALER is prolly like 8-10k only benefit would be Warr on heads if it did happen again!

So yesterday i called Amp (American Musc. Perf.) A huge Shop down here in S Fla that build’s Jeep’s all day and Night , Fasst Ones too! They said they’d def be cheaper than the dealer and i’d Most likely go w Refreshed heads (Sent out) 16+ Oe Hellcat lifters (Non Mds) Mild aftermarket Perf. Cam and all supporting hardware. + A Serious double flush Oil change to make sure there is no shavings in eng.Finally a Custom tune which they do in Hs.he says i should p up approx 30-40 Hp conservatively..
I’m Paying the dealer the $250 for Diag. Then most likely gonna pull it from there and send her over to Amp ^^^^For this Job! Im gonna head over there today to getta Quote and get exact info.. Does Anyone know Approx what this should cost so i have a Baseline to work with? I’ve used em before for Brake fluid flush and Fill ,They did my Bwoody control arms and some other Shit so i def trust em and know their work. They also built my Z06 and Added 90hp and over 100 ft lb tq. Just Suxx that w 46k on clock on a Seriously taken care of Rigg that i have to Dump all this cash rt now.
In the last year i’ve done
Ac condenser , Radiator , Rad cap , Ac Fan ,
2 Water Pumps , crankshaft pulley , pulley tensioner ,some other pulley up there belts , Hoses , and some other Shit.. Prolly like 4-5k and i don’t complain i drive i pay and i maintain But this. New Expense Rt at X’mas Is. F**k up the @SSS!! 3 Srt’s and Most def the Last’ One.. Dick’s!!

Understand your frustration here. Its always been irrelevant how well these are cared for, the majority of owners take outstanding care of them, its just a flawed design. Your still going to have around 4 or 5k in the refresh from the jeep specialists that have done your other work, you will notice a difference with the upgrades, and it should be a non issue moving forward-but thats not to say something else will arise soon after with another system in the vehicle. I am a die hard Mopar guy, but after this jeep leaves my possession, I too am done with SRT. Love their styling and how they always pushed the envelope, but I can't own a vehicle that makes me wonder if it will break today or soon. Ive seen so.e of your other posts, im surprised your not taking this job on yourself, its not that difficult, but whatever the reasoning is, keep us up to speed and post the outcome.
Thanks Jim , as far as me taking it on myself i love me a good project watch some YouTube vids and Get at it but this shit is Another level for me. I hardly understand how this stuff works , like just starting to learn about lifters and spring and all this Bs.
So i went to Amp on Fri while my truck is in Dealer waiting on em to diagnose her. His est was $7200 (See attch’d) or pix to follow.. That parts , labor and taxx..Im hope to pay Cash and save taxx brings me dwn to $6800 and then ima just Ask/Tell em to do the Job at an even $6500 Cash Moniessss.. Pls take a look at the Est Inv’ and lemme know if this all looks Kosher Pls.. He said an easy 40 Awd Hp at the wheels w the Cam and custom Dyno tune and i’d feel it forsure. They have an Awd dyno in house and their tuning guy knows his shit.. Shop’s from all over Florida get their tunes and pcm’s unlocked from these guys.. Look’s like earliest appt is dec 19 a Monday and he says he’ll have her back to me by that Fri eve! Still aint heard nutin from Stealer dicks , of course they said by Fri forsure but.. Is saturday and notta call or naddha! Dicks!
