Looking to get some head(s)

5126 Views 40 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Knuckles
Just wanted to throw it out there... I am in the market for some heads, seems there are a few dealers that simply port and polish the stock ones. Was wondering if peopel could school me on who to get them from and if I should do all new valve train (I am not really looking to change the cam). Also planning on doing a SC later, not sure if I should wait to get them after or what... I am assuming SC or not, heads will help before and after?

Thanks

Hit up Andy he's a vendor here. I ordered his mean street heads. Also if u plan on doing heads do headers too, saves money on da install.

doing a cam alone will give you more bang for the buck. heads will help more with the sc later on if anything. I would do just a cam and if you want a more aggressive cam, swap the springs on the stock heads.

First off i love the title of this thread, lmao..

If i were you i would do it all at once if you think its in the near future.... If you wanna do something right now i would do what ekaz said above.. and do heads and headers when you wanna blow it :D

Lol I was thinking the exact same thing.
The heads will make less of a difference once you throw a blower on there. If you are going to stay NA for a while you can pick up some good power with a nasty set of heads/cam.

I disagree tremendously. Look what BJB picked up when he put ported heads on.

A blower/Turbo builds boost inside the intake manifold. Everytime the valve opens, air flows into the engine. When the heads are ported, more of that air will flow into the engine making more power.

Here is more info on our heads for the OP

Also just to clarify, every set of heads out there are ported stock heads. We have no aftermarket options............................yet :)
Would this combo be good?
Heads
Headers
Cam
What's times could I get with this combo?

Its a good combo...n da time depends on what kind of heads n cam u go wit.

Way too many variables. I will say 12.0-12.4 would be average with some squeaking out mid-high 11's with those mods and a few more.

Agreed.

Yes that was impressive but that is an extreme example of a 1000hp jeep running fairly high boost. In my opinion the cost vs hp difference by doing ported heads on a "bolt-on" jeep just isn't there. You could run an extra 1-2psi to make up the difference between stock and ported heads.
With increased boost comes increased heat and additional stress on the blower. In most cases you benefit by making more power with less boost. Adding more boost will only work for so long.

Longtubes: $1600 (15rwhp)
Heads: $2000 (30rwhp)

It amazes me how many people claim the gain from heads isnt worth the cost yet they have longtubes. I dont know if you have longtubes or not, Im just pointing out the difference. Double the hp for $500 more.
So these would be better than a ported manifold and throttle body. Now, with the heads, headers, and cam, should I be worried about trans failure?
Ported Intake should be done the same time as the heads. Cam, Headers, TB first then heads/intake later.
I'D like to try out your Beast heads and see if it works Andy , I'll ship it back to you right after the test is done he he

How quickly can you install them and provide results and return them?

I haven't had any trouble with my stock trans, I have atleast 15k on the PWR setup over the last 1 1/2yr. I didn't baby it that much and have a stack of time slips. Total miles on the jeep are 62k......;)

And I bet he's being serious too....now that's awesome Andy...

Right on, thanks for all the feedback! I am still on the fence about just saving for a SC vs pulling the trigger on heads & cam; I don't think i can do long tube headers (don't think that is CARB legal here in Ca).

I would really like to get a SC and then just do ported ehads and mild cam I dont want to get very crazy. I am really leaning towards just holding off and blowing it first! Such a hard decision ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
