Looking at a 2008 Srt8 tomorrow.

Good afternoon, going to test drive a 2008, black, tomorrow. Looked at it, from the outside on Sunday, looks clean, 71,000 miles, tires, front and rear rotors and pads replaced at 49,000 miles. Came out of Canada so car fax doesn't show a lot. Don't know whether other fluids were replaced, will do it, if I buy, like to work on the little older stuff.

Came out of Canada
Originally from Alberta. Hopefully it works out for you. How did you get the window sticker?

Monroneylabels.com I think it was $10.00
Took the test drive today, sounded good, felt solid, no weird noises, brakes felt fine, new tires, brake rotors and pads were installed 20,000 miles ago. Came out of Canada so Carfax is not a lot of help. No indication of any after market power addons, body is a 9 out of 10, interior the same. Tires have 21,000 miles on them, no 70 MPH shimmy or shake. Everything appears to work except the inside tire pressure monitor, all it shows is --- . Waiting to see what they give me for my trade in.

Change the transfer case fluid unless you know 100% it has been changed in the last 30,000 miles. Use the correct NV146 fluid.

Planned on both transfer cases and new plugs to begin with.
Making the deal tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Well went and picked her up today, can't say it was the best buying experience, haven't bought from a car dealer in over 40 years and now I remember why. Seems like they are the kind of dealer that buys cars from auction does minimal cleanup, probably doesn't listen to their guy that does the Pre-delivery inspection or he is worthless and doesn't catch things or a little of both. When I first looked at it I made sure that everything worked, looked at the body for rust and dings and straight panels, looked pretty good. Checked out the interior and it was all their and looking pretty good, tires were put on 20,000 miles ago, rims have some curb rash, no terribly big deal, took it for a ride and it felt solid and went down the road straight. I like to think I am not that anal and if something arouses the analness, I will walk away. I remember when I was looking at it when we opened the hood the salesman was looking for a rod to hold the hood open , didn't see one but then I saw the piston rod on the passenger side, it would not hold the hood, forgot about it till I got it home, 1st issue. When I test drove it I noticed that the TPMS light was on and their were no pressures showed for any of the wheels, that should have been fixed off of the Pre delivery inspection, as a matter of fact when I picked it up and headed out the driveway a check engine light came on, I went back and a guy pulled out his code reader and it was a emissions thing, loose gas cap and I told him about the TPMS, he got a little reader that he held over the tire valve which should read the sensor and it didn't so they may have to put 4 new things in the tires, thing is if it HAD been done , I would not have to come back, 2 1/2 hour round trip and waite in the show room. Although the company that did the inspection put new wiper blades on the front, their is NO blade in the back and the cargo cover that was in their website pictures of the truck, it is not their now! Last but not least, I missed the fact that their is NO drivers side rear inner fender well. Oh I forgot to mention when I got in it to leave, the gas gauge was so low I immediately went straight to the gas station, whats up w/that, you do a deal and they can't have any gas in the car? I will be getting back w/them after the holiday. Everyone have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend.

Sounds very similar to when I purchased my '06 from a dealer in Westchester, NY back in 2013. I went back several times prior to purchasing it and I realized that there were a few minor issues here and there, nothing to worry much about. The Jeep always ran fine and sounded great on all the test drives, but it seems like Hell itself was puked out of the Jeep around a week or so after the purchase when all kinds of things started going wrong. Transmission issues, transfer case issues , even the rear liftgate support arms failed 3 or 4 days in and couldn't hold the liftgate up. Went back several times literally yelling at the salesmen and managers there to take the vehicle back and they were so smug in how they looked down on me just knowing that they got another one over on some a-hole sucker and they were so incredibly happy with their demonic selves. I hate dealerships and the demons that work at them. And I agree with you they probably grab cars from auctions, jack the price sky high and see what they sell for without doing anything to them, and then maybe they'll throw you a bone by replacing a lightbulb to shut you up as they screw you over. I wish people like that nothing but the best in Hell as that's where they are all headed here real soon.

Went to start it this morning and check engine light is on, suppose it is the evaporative thing again but know way of knowing. Pulled the Air cleaner yesterday, had my hood propped open w/a stick, and it was so plugged w/bugs and sht I don't know how it could breath. Obviously they took it in, did nothing to it but have the oil changed and put it on the lot.
You can get cheap wireless code readers on Amazon that hook up to Dash Command on your iPad or phone. I have an Xseries. It will read and clear codes on my 99 Mustang Cobra, but does not seem to clear the code on my 08 SRT8. Reads them fine. Yeah, most used car dealers are crap. I went to a local small town used car dealer and they were very good. They let me get a pre-purchase inspection at a mechanic down the road and actually delivered it and picked it up before I bought it. The Mechanic said the brakes were close'ish and the sales guy/owner had their mechanic pull the wheels to show me and they were fine for a used car. Sterling Auto Sales in Franktown, CO. They sell mostly trucks. If anyone is in the area and looking for a truck. That being said, I still had to do a few things in the first 6 months. When I accelerated hard and the front wheels kicked in it was real squirrely. The Tcase motor had seized and was not working right. Had that and a couple seals replaced on the Tcase and it works great now. New battery, because I got weird warnings on the dash like Check 4WD and this was after the Tcase was fixed. New TPM senders. I still get intermittent check TPM, but I think that is pretty normal with these trucks. New water pump. New radiator. Replaced the rotors and pads with Power Stop Z26, which I love! I have a 160 miles on her now and she's running great! Love my Jeep! Ok, enough ramling.

Have an OBD 11 scanner but it didn't at first want to connect, but it did and was an emissions thing, either loose cap, not stock gas cap or possibly canister for emissions.

What was the asking price for your Jeep ? It sounds like a nice one.

They were asking 26,500, I had a trade in that was worth more, we did a even trade, I wanted the SRT, lol, and it has been a week now since I sent a text, after getting it home and finding things that should have been addressed before it went on the lot but have not heard squat back. They agreed to fix the TPMS, the rear cargo cover was in the sales pictures but was missing when I got home and noticed. All it seems they did was buy it from auction, do a "quick" clean up and put it on the lot.

Sounds like you need to show up on their doorstep and square up. From what I read in your post about the condition it doesn't sound like a terrible deal provided they make it right with you on the other stuff. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

No, it wasn't a terrible deal, they got the best of it but I am all in all happy, I will see if I can get them to cover a few things that should have been done before it went on the lot...
