Looking into these units from JL Audio... Had a full JL Audio system in my last WJ, and wanted to transfer it over to the "new" WK. Plan to keep the stock RER headunit, and looking for some information about the installation and sound quality from these two devices.

What's the best way to install one of these? Looked all over including several other Jeep forums, and while many folks claim to be running one (or both) of these units, I can't seem to find any write-ups or pix. Any help would be appreciated!

TIA!

I have them installed... with 3.5" TR speakers in the dash, C2 speakers in all 4 of the doors, and a 10W7 in the back. Running on 500/1 & 300/4 JL amps. I'm not really impressed.
Expensive: Yes
Pain to install: Yes (LOTS of wires to cut/re-wire)

And, they recommend you run the gain knob that goes to the Clean Sweep... and another for sub gain if you want that. It's not worth the $ if you ask me. And I've been running the setup for a few months.
And... the summing device doesn't really fix the fact that your ohms are going to be too low on your front speakers, and the TR dash speakers can't handle the power from the amp (even with the gain turned down in the dirt)... so your voice coils will get hot until you run resistors.

it's a pain.

if i could easily unhook it... i would.

I'd wait for the new Rockford 360 that's soon to be released.

Or get a bitone or bit ten from audison. As for autenb, sounds like your system needs to be adjusted. Those are all pretty decent JL speakers. I listened to some of them over the weekend.

How did the JL speakers sound compared to your Jeep setup, Eric? Be honest! Lol!

Well comparing the JL's to my 3-way active Dynaudio setup, well, let's just say they sounded a little flat. I listened to speakers from the entire JL line, C3, C5, ZR, etc and they didn't sound bad, but compared to my old setup....a little too flat. I also listened to some Focal's and wow, very nice speakers. If you are in the upper line of the JL Audios, I'd definitely look at some of the Focal's. I listened to a set of Focal 165KRX2 and they sounded really nice.

I've got Focal 165 KR2's for my front, Boston 3.5's for the dash and Focal 165 30th anniversary set for the rear doors. I haven't installed them yet as I'm waiting for that Rockford 360 to hit the market.

What Bostons? That's going to sound nice once you get it all in there and adjusted. I would have a hard time waiting, I would've said screw it and gotten a head unit. LOL
That's what started mine, I wanted to add an amp to replace the kicker sub, the adapters sounded like crap and next thing you know the headunit is done.

I am pretty sure the Boston Acoustics that he is talking about are the SE35's. and on that note Boston Acoustics are leaving the car audio market so if anyone is looking--now is the time to buy..

Thanks for the replies.

My concern with the PAC kit is it only provides TWO pair of RCA's... one set for the front and one set for the rear. How are you supposed to get a signal to the sub amp? My last Eclipse head unit had three sets of outputs.

Pretty sure the JLAudio CleanSweep and DSL only have two sets of outputs as well....

My kicker amp and most other amps have a audio output so I just ran rcas from my high amp to the sub amp or if your amp doesn't have a output you could split the rears from the PAC with y spliters just saying to give other options than going through the hassle and the the $ of the clean sweep and bit ten I did the PAC unit got it on eBay for 80 shipped and since you run new wires to your 4 door speakers you get a full rang signal and can leave you dash speakers on the factory amp which will give you two extra speakers In a great location and you won't have to worry about over powering them

Most amps will have a pass through pair of RCAs that you can use to connect to the sub amp. Or get a RP4-CH11 and a head unit with 3 sets of RCA's.

I just changed out my kicker and went with Morel Ovations and Tempo along with an 8ch output converter. I don't know if you have heard my rig or not but I can't hear my rig at idle or my tunes now. Everything is so clear, I'm into music again.

Roll Out!!

By the way, I'm powering my (2) 12's with a kicker amp and the Morel's with a kicker amp. Thinking about changing out my amps and going with a different design all together.

I used AC-LC8i AudioControl. I had a local shop do all of the work. I'm trying to get them to sponsor my rig. Outside of listening to music in my Man Cave, the way my rig sounds now leaves my mouth hanging open everytime I drive it.

Roll Out!!
