My Jeep has been plague with all kinds of problems electrical and mechanical. I bought it with 14k on the clock and have the Chrysler extended warranty... Anyhow a few weeks ago I started to see what can be described as claw marks on my paint all over the place. However it ended up being my paint cracking, weak!
Took it to the dealer and the body guy showed me about 8 clues that all point to the fact that it was crashed and repainted. Weak

Sent an email to the dealer I bought it from (random Nissan dealer, I know my bad for not getting it from a Chrysler dealer, but at that time there were no jeeps around me), but I am wondering if it was sold as a certified vehicle and they didn't disclose the repaint should I demand them to paint it or pay me? I will look at what exactly I signed (it was sold with factory warranty)

Nope, I registered with jeep and I can see previous services but no body work either... Pretty much that's how it goes with used, but just weak that they sold it as certified with warranty and that there were obvious signs of repair. I am sure they aapraised it when buying it from dude and according to the body guy he saw the signs right away and deeper you Fo the more obvious it gets.

If there are no reports of damage, then it has not been "damaged".....hehehe. I say that because paint is under the warranty and extended warranty. If your paint is cracking, you should get a new paint job for free. No? Or at least the portions that need to be repainted.

No reports does not mean that there are no damages... No report might mean there is no SERIOUS damage... but it could be well abused and fixed by a cheap shop and not reported to the insurance...

i say get a lawer,,make them buy it back....i just bought one myself ,,did look at the carfax,,,,was clean all the way...even ask the dealer guy about any paint work and all,said all was good..i get it in this week it better be,lol,lol....

i hate lawer's but sometimes thats the only way to go...

Its very common for people to pay for the body damage in cash instead of getting hit with a deductable, and then higher rates. Thats why it is the buyer's responsibility to check for damage, or indications that a panel may have been removed. There is no law that states that CarFax has to be 100% accurate, and the dealer has no liability since they were informed as much as you.

For sure I am in no way blaming the CARFAX, all they claim is to give me the info reported to them, they never claim to know everything that happened.

My beef is that they probably knew this since they looked over the car when it was traded in to them/sold. That's all, they represented as "clean" and the price reflected that that's all.

BTW does anyone know what the factory warranty on paint is? Where can I find that info?

Paint should be covered under the factory 3 year/36K bumper to bumper warranty, but it only covers factory defects, and blemishes.

Per my knowledge any dealer in most states are liable to disclose damages prior to sell. Esp if the car is a certified pre-owned... Check your local Lemon Laws...
It does not matter if it is warrantied or not... I do not think warranty will cover a damage by the previous owner... It will cover any out of factory defects... not after you smash it somewhere... Call Chrysler check it.. might be wrong.

It is common sense with CARFAX everyone knows,... even CARFAX itself states it:

Just take the car to a collision center and check it for frame damage and get an estimate for your damages... if you do not have frame damage then u can demand $ for fixes since they did not inform you with existing issues...

If u have frame or uni-body damage above state limits... I say talk to the dealer to undo ur deal and get ur full $ back... if they are not being helpful in that situation then get a lawyer and sue them.

I can drive my truck into a lake pay to fix it myself and it would never show up on Carfax / Only reported claims will show up .

Agreed... to clarify my "SERIOUS damage" comment: I assume people will want to get insurance $ if they total their cars... if it is a fender bender or damages that does not hurt the pocket to fix it with out going to their insurances, then those will not show on Carfax...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am not sure what I am going to do, I really feel like the dealer knew/saw the damage and played dumb. Didn't denny but didn't disclose either and that is what bugs me. It is true that it was my responsibility to check it all out and I fell short on that. Lesson learned.

I did the same... I ended up going after work hours and in dark and did not see the paint defects on mine... I bought it and then realized stuff... went back they acted like they do not know me... but after 7 months I got $ back for repairs. You could be someone who has no idea about anything buying a car. If the damages are obvious to a professional eye, in this case it is the dealer! they are obligated to inform you with issues...

Your call boss. I hope u enjoy your truck otherwise.
