here is what I am doing....

I want to be able to put what is on my Android phone (Galaxy Nexus) onto the nav screen. I am 1/2 way there. I have the CHR550 installed and it has a set of RCA inputs. My phone however only does HDMI out. so I have to install a HDMI to RCA converter (
). this converter has to be powered. so that brings me to my question....

How should I go about powering the converter?

obviously the easiest thing would be to buy
, but I don't want the wires showing. i want it all to be hidden away except for the cable that plugs into my phone. the converter's power supply needs to be a DC 5V.

Also, the power for my phone charger is DC 5V...so my thought is that what ever I come up with to power the converter...I could also attach my charger and do both. does that sound right?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Voltage regulator. 12v in 5v out. You could also probably go to Radio Shack and find and 12V to 5v or 9v or whatever adapters.

Common one used to be the 7805...dunno about it anymore, might be a little old-school and depending on what you're powering it'll require heat sink and capacitors. There's also this step-down regulator, but I'm not real familiar with it...and if it's DC-DC there's the possibility of ground loop issues.

Then there's this, which looks like a solid little unit.

Hope it helps a little man, been a minute since I did anything aside from a head unit, speakers, amps or woofers!

thanks for all the input guys. my simple idea is stating to cost more than i want to spend for novelty. the main reason i wanted to be able to do this was to be able to watch movies saved on my phone on road trips. renting a DVD seems to be a much simpler/cheaper solution since the unit already has a DVD player built in.

again, thanks for all the feedback!
