I found a fix for Sunroof not closing flush!

Recently, I noticed that my sunroof was not closing flush with the roof but was otherwise working properly. Not by much, but there was enough room for water to get past the seal. I took the rig to the dealership. They charged me $110 to diagnose. They told me I had a bad module, it was not covered by the extended warranty, and it would cost me $675 to fix. I said never mind and took the rig home, $110 poorer.

I got online and found a TSB from 2005 that explains how to recalibrate the sunroof. I did it, and now it closes like its supposed to.

Just follow steps 7-12 at the bottom of this TSB:

I tried it this morning and this is what happened.:(

Keep trying it, mine didn't fix it the first time. It took like 5 or six tries. This is always an interesting thread. I see these steps listed on the new post list every couple months and everyone is always overjoyed to find the solution. I definitely think this should become a sticky. Its a VERY common problem
Wow bump just for stealer ships taking our hard earned money

Well... This being my second Jeep, I knew how to re-calibrate it. I did it when I first bought it a few weeks ago. So in comes the first big rain storm since then... I hop in the Jeep and there's literally 2-3" of water in the driver's side floorboard with water running down both "oh-$hit" handles.
So... I did it again and repeatedly opened/closed it while under an overpass and hopefully it'll stop leaking. But last I checked, there was still water in the overhead piece.

Now... I see that there's also drain lines that run off of that thing.
TSB_WK_23-050-04 tells you all about it. Pictures too.
Much appreciated. Worked for me.
I`ll try this later. thumbs up for poster, was giving me headaches.
I noticed something was wrong but didn't knew what it was. the water was leaking from the handles like the above post says, and also on top of the vanity mirror, in the roof. I looked the sunroof from the outside and I notice that the sunroof was leaving a space between the sunroof, and the roof itself.

So as I read this is a very common problem. Now, I need to find something for the water stains... Anyone has a quick and easy advice for what to use?
What else can you expect from a Stealership other than taking your money?

TSBs are those things that aren't technically warranty issues unles under warranty. You have to request it during that time, then its free of charge....or should be.
Thanks for this tip! I should have re-adjusted my sunroof a year ago!
Pretty common mistake for people to think the sunroof actually seals out water. It does not. The flusher it sits the better obviously, but if you are having water issues inside your vehicle you need to check for plugged drain lines from the sunroof trough.
Did you get your money back?

This is an excellent post! Thanks dude.
Saved me a ton of money thanks. Just got my Jeep and I'm bringing it back to life. It seems like it has every common problem that it could have. Thanks again!
currently had a leak today and tried the vent fix (hold for 5 seconds) and it seems like it moves slightly forward and then back...is this what others are experiencing? Just wondering if I am doing it correct.
JustJepn to tell you the truth I had a hard time getting it to work as well. What I ended up doing is holding the vent button for slightly longer. Try holding it for 10 seconds and let me know how it goes!
Sunroof was not fully closing

The document says for 2006 Jeeps but it worked on our 2005 Grand Cherokee.

Thanks for sharing.

I am [posting the instructions here to help others. People are having Jeep owners do all kinds of stupid stuff when all you have to do is a simple calibration. So Do the following and hopefully your sunroof will be closed all the way.

7. Place the ignition switch in RUN position.
8. Close all of the doors.
9. Press and release the vent switch (sunroof should move to vent position).
10. Once the sunroof has stopped motion at the vent position, press and hold the vent switch for at least 5 seconds to recalibrate the sunroof position.
11. If the sunroof did not reach the full vent open position, press and hold the vent switch until the full-vent-open position is reached then release the vent switch, then press and hold the vent switch for at least 5 seconds to recalibrate the sunroof position.
12. Cycle the sunroof from the full-vent-open position to the full-slide-open position and back to the full-vent-open position at least 7 complete times.
The sunroof is now in customer mode with the obstacle detection thresholds updated.

@bigwil @FriscoHemi - My sunroof use to work properly and then one day last year, same thing, it would not close flush. I tried manually recalibrating it, even pulling the fuse, but I can't get it to work. First I put it in the full-vent-open position, hold the Vent button for 5 seconds, then I attempt to cycle through the motions. Unfortunately it stalls at the closed, sagging position and will not return to vent. Any ideas?
