Hey Guys,

This question has probably been asked before, I just did not know how to search for an exact answer. The question is "If I buy an 06/07 GC SRT8 and slap a blower on it with mild bolt ons (Headers/exhaust) how well will the Jeep hold up? How well will the motor/trans/dif/ and all important essentials of the truck hold up? This all being done of course with a good tune.

As far as blower it would most likely be a Kenne Bell or a Whipple Blower. Low boost of course until the truck is ready for a makeover in the future sometime.

Thanks

Keep boost under 8lbs or so and get a good tune from Johan or Joel.

The engine will handle the boost just fine with a good tune. I've pushed 13psi with race gas on my stock bottom end. Of course, mine is turbo not a blower which is easier on the engine. The tranny will take a shit around the 500+rwhp mark. I'm still running a stock rear end. FYI..... my Jeep has 94K miles on it.:D

We make turbo kits. Our IAT's are much lower than a KB's I'll guarantee you that! Kits start at $8999 and go up to $11,999 installed.

Who makes turbo kits for these trucks and what kind of price ranges are we looking at? what about heat issues with truck with turbo vs blower?
[email protected], the guy that just posted before you sells them, either single turbo or twin turbos. We also have Chris (Junior666) Twin-Turbo creations, who's also a vendor here, he also sells them. Harrison is in Florida & Chris in NY.

Edit: You beat me to it HB! :)

Thanks for the info.

My whipple is right around 6lb boost. Been on for 12k miles with no issues. Everything else is stock expect for an exhaust and tstat.

Like said, the tune has a lot to do with it.
Full Exhaust with headers? I see you are running 11.8 in the quarter. That is pretty good just for a slap on blower at lbs. Does the hood have to be changed do to clearance issues with the whipple?

What is the low boost used on these kits on stock blocks? How much rwhp and rwtq can someone get from this kit?

We have a used Whipple here at the shop for sale for $4500.00 if you're interested.
That sounds very tempting. I will be in the market for one soon but not just yet. I'm trying to check out all my options on what will be the best thing to go with with little to no changes later. What does the used kit come with?

There is no preset psi limit. You can blow it up with 3psi and it can survive at 15psi. The tune is the magic part. You have to keep heat out of the chamber to prevent it from blowing up. Turbos have much lower charge temps than the kenne bell and im not sure what the whipple charge temp is. IMO, Stage 6 kit with 1.5 step colder plugs and a good tune from Jersey Boy and you will be fine at 10psi with good 93 octane fuel.

............And then buy a "built" motor and crank it up to 18-25# BOOST

I agree at 100% tune is everything with boost. I like the idea that with a turbo if ti comes to power the sky is the limit on a good build. I had a blower on my Z06 and ran into belt slip issues at higher boost and other misc stuff.

Mondo got me by .30 and I ran stock heads. He's just lucky that's all.;)

Low boost on our kits is whatever you want to set it at really. Anywhere from 3psi on up to 20+ depending on what spring you want to run in your wastegate. You can typically run 2.5X your wastegate spring with an electronic boost controller. On my street tune I made 559AWHP at 5.5psi with the mods listed in my "garage" and did 624AWHP on race gas at 8psi. I now run 8psi on the street with pump gas. I'm still running the stock bottom end. Mods are cam, headers, ported/polished manny, 90mm TB, tranny, tcase, DR's, electric water pump.

Here's a video of me running 11.5psi up in Virginia earlier this year.

Here's what the speedo looks like during a [email protected] run.:D

Or for a fraction of the cost and good homework you can run 10's safely at 9psi .

How do you figure fraction of the cost? You can run 10's with our 67mm kit Paulo. A Vortech kit with a T-Trim upgrade isn't THAT much cheaper than our 67mm kit installed. Our 67mm kit is capable of more hp. than a T-Trim can make. Now that's doing your homework.;)

And I went 10.70's on 8psi.:p

Just giving the OP another option , Turbo is the way IMO , but for what I've personally spent on my JEEP and ran what i ran , That is doing serious Homework . ( He can do the same )
