Battery/ Alternator questions

I know theres a bunch of threads on this but I've done a little searching and thought I'd start a new one:

My Jeep is a 2010 so the OEM battery is a little over 2 years old --
I have no mods to this vehicle --
I didn't even know there was a BATTERY charging light, cause it has never come on,
which I'm assuming means "the ALTERNATOR is working fine."

About 2 months ago was the first time the battery died -- Jeep started, then I turned it off with radio on for about 10-15 minutes and BATT was dead.

No problems since then until today --

Jeep sat for the weekend, but started right up -- I drove 2 miles to my office --
was at the office about 1 hr -- started again and went around the corner -- Jeep sat for about 20 minutes -- got in and tried to start and got the crazy flashing of the NAV screen, clicking, etc and BATT was dead. ???

Called wife and she came and we got the Jeep jumped.

WTF?

How long do these batteries last?

How do I determine if its the battery or the charging system?

Please advise.

i would go to autozone or a local store and have them test the battery, its free. if its good then you could rule out the battery.

Sounds strange, I have an 06 and had the original Mopar battery in there. The car wouldn't fire right up when I would start it and some weird electrical problems would occur. Went to get the battery and alt. checked both were fine but on a hunch I still replaced the batter. Never had a problem since. Electrical problems are really the biggest PITA when it comes to GCSRT8's.

Stock batteries have been known to test fine yet be bad...I would replace the battery

Buy the Optima red or yellow top and forget it. Stock battery can be problematic

Except that Optima Batteries have gone way downhill lately. Johnson Controls moved production to Mexico and then the quality went down. People used to get 7-8 years out of one and now are lucky to get 3 out of them.

Well thanks guys for the input --
not gonna chance it anymore --
bought a new battery @ Advance Auto Parts --
they checked my OEM batt and it checked out GOOD (he said had 600 CCA)
and checked my ALTERNATOR and it checked GOOD --

so I can't figure out what was happening but $129 is worth not having to risk being stuck.

The new BATT is AutoCraft Gold -- 3 year replacement / 84 month pro-rated

I looked for the OPTIMA -- could not find one for the Jeep here in Houston.
My 07 did almost the same thing I thought it was the Battery also . I got stuck after I had it Rust sparay towed it and they changed the battery .was fine for a day then the same thing . Pulled the starter and it has been fine ever since
My '09 was manufactured in 08/08, i purchased it 11/09 the battery had to be replaced 02/10. Battery tested ok as did the alternator. Everything has been fine since.
OP - your 3YR/36K warranty is out?

If not you should have gotten a new battery under warranty (if it was bad).

I went over the 36K miles quite some time ago -- battery only acted up twice in the last 3 months.

Makes sense. With batteries as any active part, it is not just the age, it is also the usage.
