sunroof scare . . .

Last night, started up, and pushed the sunroof button -- only position that worked was the vent button, but it went up in discrete steps, like 1 2 3 4 5 (5 touches of the button) until it was fully open in the vent position -- and there it STUCK -- so I drove home, and thought, maybe if I turn off and restart the module will reset. No dice: went in and started looking for tech info on the sunroof (I had a module go bad on my 1st Magnum, so I know sh#t happens)

Anyway, after an hr decided to go out again, and just held the button down, and Lo and Behold, it closed -- back to normal (I think).

WTF???

There is a recallibration procedure for the LX's and I'm thinking it's the same for our Jeeps. Give this a try:

---------------------------
SUNROOF POSITION CALIBRATION
Press the power sunroof switch (Open, Closed, and Vent). If no movement occurs when either the open switch or closed switch is pressed, but the system does move when the vent button is pressed and held, the system is not calibrated. Perform the following procedure to position calibrate the power sunroof system.

1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
2. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and hold until the sunroof glass panel has moved to the full vent position and the motor movement has stopped for at least 1 second.
3. Press the close switch on the power sunroof switch and hold for a moment (at least 100ms) and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full close position. If the sunroof glass panel does not return to the full close position, refer to the appropriate diagnostic information for full system diagnosis.
4. Verify proper system operation.

EXCESSIVE FORCE LIMITATION (EFL) CALIBRATION
NOTE: Verify the battery is in good condition prior to performing this procedure. Do not leave the vehicle on a battery charger while performing this procedure. If the voltage at the sunroof motor/module drops below 11 volts or exceeds 15 volts at anytime while this procedure is being performed, the Excessive Force Limitation (EFL) function will not be properly calibrated.

1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
2. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and hold until the sunroof glass panel has moved to the full vent position and the motor movement has stopped for at least 1 second.
3. Press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue
travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the first sunroof closed position in a series of four sunroof closes.
4. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should move to the full vent position. After the sunroof motor/module has stopped, press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the second sunroof closed position in a series of four sunroof closes.
5. Continue to move the sunroof glass to the “vent” then “closed” positions two more times so that the sunroof glass has moved to the closed position a total of four times starting with the first sunroof close in step 3.
6. Press the open position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full open position.
7. Press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the first sunroof closed position in a series of five sunroof closes.
8. Press the open position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should move to the full open position. After the sunroof motor/module has stopped, press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. Continue to move the sunroof glass to the “open” then “closed” position four more times so that the sunroof glass has moved to the closed position a total of five times starting with the first sunroof close in step 7. Verify proper EFL calibration by placing a standard pencil at the front of the sunroof and then moving the sunroof to the full closed position. The sunroof should reverse direction upon contact without damage to the pencil.

Has anyone else had issues with the sunroof doing what da BoMM's has done? I've had it happen a few times. I've tried the reset on Bernie's response which eventually fixes the problem until it happens next time.

The dlr has replaced the switch as it threw a code. My sunroof has done this again with the new switch & again the new switch has thrown a code so it's going to be replaced as well. I'm not totally convinced it's the switch at this point. Anyone else had this problem & if so has anyone got a fix? I had this happen on occasion with my '06 CSRT8 I owned previously.

Had the same exact problem. I couldnt close it, so I parked it for the evening and came back in the morning and pressed the button and it closed. Never happened again though.

update -- just an fyi --
since the "incident" on 3/13 I've had no problems --

sunroof works normally -- just was awkward at the time, and
has me wondering when it might happen again . . .

Had it happen to me too... about a month after getting her. Same situation, went inside after it stopped working (stuck in opened "vent" position) and an hour later when I tried it again it worked.

Could this be just a 2010 thing? da, what year is your rig?

Wow thanks for the calibration instructions! About 2 out of 10 closes the sunroof will almost close, then open all the way (pinch feature). I took it to the dealer on two occasions and they couldn't replicate it. Now my warranty is up.

mines a 2010 too -- so far, only the key fobs (intermittent) and this sunroof incident, are the only issues: very minor in the big scheme

Yes, I know, bumping up an old thread, but this is my exact problem.
Got in the jeep this morning and the sunroof wouldn't close. Only button that worked was the center vent button. Well, now the sunroof is stuck in the vent position and none of the buttons do anything. I've seen the 'Reset procedure' described, but it talks about pressing the buttons and having the sunroof move during each part of the reset. MINE WON'T MOVE, regardless of which of the 3 buttons I push.

Any suggestions??

Thanks
