Whipple knock help

Hey guys,

I recently installed a whipple kit on a stock motor. Im running about 7psi at 5000 ft elevation. Johan is doing the tuning and everything was going great until the last few days. I recently started to get some heavy low end knock. The last log shows 8 deg ST and 2 deg LT at 23% throttle at 1500 rpm then 6 deg ST and 6.5 deg LG at 65% throttle and 3900 rpms. If i can get past the low end knock WOT is perfect no knock 10.8 AFR threw redline.

Since the problem started I have reverted back to some old tune revisions that had no previous issues, completely drained the fuel in the tank and refilled with shell 91 octane (from the same station I had success with earlier), and re-torqued every exhaust bolt i could find. By hand I can find any metal to metal contact when moving the exhaust.

Any ideas?

Another note, prior to the knock issue I installed a catch can. This is how I have it installed. Did I do something wrong here?

Hey Smokey, can't help with the catch can... but the work that you went through to "revert back" seems really extensive... except that you left the 1 piece of hardware in place that you changed.

Pull the catch can and see what happens... check the hose "post" CC for excessive amounts of oil.

Thanks for the reply, I didnt go back to stock, I installed some of the early tunes that Johan sent that didnt have the problem the first go around but did when I reverted back.

The hose that runs from the CC to the intake snout is perfectly clean. The CC seems to be doing a great job.

Are you in part throttle boost when you get the knock? What is your manifold pressure at the time the knock event occurs? What is the AFR?

In all cases less than 2 psi, AFR between 13-15. Its looking like rattling exhaust valves are the problem. I zip tied open and had a few miles with no problems until the ties melted.

That sensitivity can be adjusted but proceed with caution

Well the knock is 100% gone but now I have what feels like TC shutter. It only happens under 2000 rpm and gets progressively worse with throttle input. (Shakes more with 50% throttle than 15% throttle). The strange thing to me is the exhaust note seems to change almost like MDS kicking in and a similar shake.

I havent been able to get a good launch, off idle, brake torque, launch control all fall on their face before coming into power.

Johan cant find anything in the tune that he doesnt like.

Any hail marys?
