made headlines with its “Imported from Detroit” tagline, and to our surprise, the cars are also exported… to Japan.
That’s not really a huge surprise, but Chrysler certainly doesn’t have much of a presence in the Japanese marketplace thanks to a lack of tiny city cars.
Looking to appeal to the enthusiast demographic, the automaker’s new SRT performance brand set up shop at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, arriving to the party with its Jeep
Grand Cherokee SRT8 and a Chrysler
Neither vehicle, even in non-SRT form, is very popular in Japan – it’d be difficult to spot one driving on the streets everyday. But if there’s one thing Japanese automotive enthusiasts love, it’s horsepower. Both models pack plenty of it with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 featuring a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 470 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
The 300 SRT8 has the same powerplant lurking underneath the hood and the vehicle as a whole has incredible power and handling characteristics
. It’s rather interesting to see both models showing up in Tokyo as SRT continues to expand its presence internationally.
