Little update I received over the weekend, things seem to be looking up for Dominick!!!!

As of this morning (Saturday 1/12) Dominic has been REMOVED from the national transplant list!!!! When he first arrived at Lurie Children’s Hospital Sunday morning, his INR levels were at 5.7 indicating liver failure and was put on the national transplant list. A healthy liver levels are 1 – 1.5. Dominic’s INR level is 1.8. His liver is starting to repair itself. The top liver transplant surgeon in the country…who happens to be one of Dominic’s doctors, said that in 35 years of doing liver transplants, he has never seen a failed/dead liver come back like this.
For as incredibly fantastic as this news is, Dominic still has a long road to travel. He remains on dialysis 24/7 , but kidneys are a resilient organ, and though it will take time, doctors are expecting him to regain full kidney function.
Dominic has been so responsive the last 24 hours. Especially to Ross & I. He made a scrunched angry face this morning when his dad told him Notre Dame got beat and smiled when I said “ROLL TIDE” !!! He responds to commands given to him by his doctors, but continue to monitor him and his neurological function. Dominic is very aware of all that is going on around him which not only has his dad & I excited, but his entire team of doctors as well. They also need to maintain his temperature so that his brain doesn’t over heat and Dominic has been under a cooling blanket since yesterday because his temp is at a high 99.
Dominic still has a breathing tube in but is breathing completely on his own and the tube will probably be removed Monday or Tuesday.
Ross & I want to thank you all for your prayers…..prayer is a powerful thing…please keep them coming.. and we are so grateful for each and every one of you and we are truly, truly blessed that you are part of our lives!!!
Love & Smiles, Caryn
