I would never buy anything from craigslist, you are just asking to be ripped off.
That's not true at all. You just have to conduct due diligence (that you should be doing on every item you purchase regardless of what site you use to find it. Get it inspected, and go with your gut. Walking in blind to a situation will get you ripped off.
As for the car, sounds like he used it as a "flash" it. Put it in a prominent spot so it attracted people's eyes as they walked/drove by. Probably had it priced super high for the past few years so nobody would be willing to buy it. Now that the '12/'13s are out he's realizing that the ship is sailing in terms of making some coin off of it. Sounds like a solid deal (if you get that 35k down a bit more)
Looks great, but I'd be worried about possible flat spots in the tires, I'd definitely want all fluids changed. But I wouldn't mind having a brand new wk1
