WK2 door hinge detents........ anyone else hate this?
Man....... I've never owned a car where I'M having to be careful about door-dinging someone else's car.
These hinges have 3 positions, barely open, just barely open enough and WIDE friggin' open. In the movement between the 2nd and last detent I have to make sure I keep my hand on the door and hold it as I get out to keep it from swinging into another car in a parking lot.
Getting in/out of this thing on a sloped driveway facing uphill is an exercise in stupidity! Either the door isn't open enough, or you have to lean way out to push it open or grab it to close it.
Love everything else about this Jeep........ but the door detents are retarded. Who the Eff designed these????
Rant off.

You should change your sig from yellaheep to *itchalot. Really?? You're having a problem opening the doors.
I'm with ya on this one. It's especially annoying to my 8 year old son...he loves everything about the SRT save the door's opening manners. It's to the point where I will go around to the passenger side rear to open it for him when we are parked adjacent to another vehicle - he has already learned that dinging someone else's ride is not acceptable under any circumstance. The detents need to be both less prominent/peaky and possibly numbered more than 3 for the entire swing of the door from barely open to wide open.

Sorry for being a smart*** its just that I'm struck by all the varied complaints here about this Jeep. The fact that the doors open so wide is a good thing and something I really like.

I think the complaint isnt how wide they open when opened all the way. I think that the detents to open the door 1/4, 3/4 and fully open are not made in the best spots. I have noticed this to but I think its just getting used to something new and once you are used to how they open it will not bug me at all
The setup on the WK1 leaves something to be desired also. Even on the level if you are not at one of the detent positions, the door wants to move on its own, I assume due to spring pressure.
