Funny, I've been considering picking up a Springfield XPS 9mm or 0.40 cal for home protection. I'll get my ccw just because I can. My wife wants something around the house for when I travel. Just need to take the time and go fire some at the range.

Man I was just thinking about making a gun thread but didn't know how it would be received. Even living in Canada where our piss pants laws restrict our magazine capacities of semi auto centrefire firearms and pistols alike and even contain their use to ranges only I still have a collection that if sold could probably pay off my Jeep LoL. As stated before no gun collection is ever complete without at least 1 model 1911 in .45acp. I have them in .45, 9mm and even the awesome 10mm auto. Glocks are my workhorses including G20, and a G21sf. Moving into revolvers I started off with a ruger blackhawk in 45 colt and further moved onto a Smith & Wesson .460 XVR, now that badboy is FUN! My strongest addiction firearms wise is my long range precision and tactical rifles. I regularly attend 1000-1500yd shoots and even one annual 1760yd (1 mile shoot) in Northern Alberta every year. Furthest I have personally reliably shot a target to date is 1800m with my custom .338 lapua mag but hoping to stretch it out further soon. I will try to throw some pics up tonight.

Nice collection of toys. So for someone like myself who has never fired a gun, any recommendations as to what should be my first? And whats the process to go about buying and carrying in L.A.? I've been putting this off for a while but I think nows a good time as any with all the crazies running around.
Permit to carry a loaded weapon in L.A.? .. I guess become friends with the Chief of Police.
Quote:
California is a "may issue" state for concealed carry. A license to carry a concealed firearm may be issued or denied to qualified applicants at the discretion of the County Counsels or City Attorneys in their place of residence. In practice, the attitudes of different sheriffs and police chiefs toward the issuance of permits vary widely and, consequentially, different jurisdictions in California can vary anywhere from de facto shall-issue to de facto no-issue. A permit may be issued, by a county Sheriff or city Chief or head of municipal police, in one of two formats:
A license to carry concealed a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
Where the population of the county is less than 200,000 persons according to the most recent federal decennial census, a license to carry loaded and exposed in that county a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
California does not recognize any concealed carry permits issued by other states or their political subdivisions. With exceptions for nonresident Active Duty military members permanently stationed within California, state law generally forbids nonresidents from obtaining a California CCW permit.
California law provides that the Sheriff of a county or a city Police Chief may issue a license to carry a concealed weapon upon proof that the person applying is of good moral character and that good cause exists for the issuance. While it is generally believed to be extremely difficult to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon (CCW) in California, the difficulty varies greatly by city and county of residence. In some rural counties, qualified applicants are usually successful in obtaining a license, while some cities and counties, such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, are extremely restrictive in what they perceive to be "good cause".
Its already too late. first gun i bought was a m&p 15 AR. just pick up a H&R 20 ga for deer hunting and the sr9 all in the same week. working on my conceal permit now. lol. I think next is a little 22 rifle... or a 22 bolt for my AR and a 380 bodyguard to conceal. you can shoot all day for like $10 with 22.
