This Thanksgiving their will be a turkey cook off at the Schweiger household. This was inspired by my wife's family coming over for dinner last week....my wife's brother; said we should deep fry a turkey this year. My wife laughed, then I suggested a little family competition. When my wife and I started dating we started having Thankgiving at our house and the tradition continues. It's usually her family that comes over; parents, brother, aunt, her grandmother, and her cousin and cousins fiancé. My family usually doesn't attend as they are usually out of town.
So this year, the women will be cooking a boring turkey inside in the oven, however the men will be outside smoking cigars, sipping on a beer, deep frying a turkey... for the first time. Fire extinguisher on hand just in case.
I'll still be helping with the other Thanksgiving side, but when it's turkey time, she's going down!
My neighbor Dan and his two girls will most likely be judging the contest. I'm assuming people on here have deep fried a turkey. Does anyone have any highly recommended recipes for a deep fryer? Or any suggestions/tips besides not to burn the house down or having the yard go up in flames??
We men are using a Cajun dry rub I found on line which will give us first place!
I'm going all out on this, the winners get some bragging rights and a nice little trophy which will state '2012 - Men' or '2012 - Women'
Has anyone else ever had a nice little family cook off like this?!

Just make sure you thaw it completely first. Deep fried turkey is by far the best way to go!
