im eventually going to trim back the engine cover properly, for now im glad everything fits and i didnt have to modify much.
i was thinking of using a piece of EMT, or conduit used by electricians, and using that as a spacer. i can cut that to any side i need, eliminating the existing spacer and washers, and still retaining that clean look

Can't you just use a piece of aluminum tubing from home depot or lowes?? They have 1/2" which would be a little loose around the bolt, but should work.
Well my piece of aluminum disappeared like a virgin on prom night so I had to use 1 inch steel. I couldn't find my metric tap/die set (and impatient) so I just made a spacer like the original but 1.125 long. Nothing special, knurled it since I had the time.
Going to see how it fits when I get home. Based on everyone's feedback it seem likely I'll have to trim the cover with 1.125 plus the original spacer but I didn't want it sticking too far out just to clear it.
Now that I've done one it literally takes a couple minutes to machine more so PM me with the length you want and I'll make it so. No charge. I get free shipping at work and the thought of anyone putting a piece of electrical conduit on their rig makes me cringe

that might not be enough, i used enough washers to fill in a gap of 2-3 inches
I was thinking that when I was making it but couldn't remember if I was using two 0.5 spacers or two 1.0 inch. I figured I'd use the new spacer and the factory one and see how it fit, then come back a make one the exact length.
When I got home and started looking at it, I decided needing 3.0 inch spacer is B.S. especially when there is that nice stud sticking out right up top. I'm going to drive the jeep into work and make my own bracket or possibly re purpose the OEM one to use that mounting point. I really want the can closer to the engine and rotated counter clockwise so it lines up with the engine connections better.
