What's the down side then? Why wouldn't they give us better gears from the get go? Or do you need the extra HP to run them?
Exactly Tony, the Jeeps needed the gearing to get the 5k lbs moving. The cars come with the 3.07 gear
and the rt's come with 2.83 gears.
The extra power my 440 made in combination with the torque converter let me hit consistant 1.51 60's
The advantage for the my setup is I plan on trapping close to 150 and thats in 5th gear. You want to trap in 4th
or the 1:1 gear if you can
This is quickly becoming one interesting read. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this..... but as I understand it, this sounds like a no-brainer for higher HP builds, right? If that's the case, how is it that Junior is the only one to have played around with different gear ratios? Is it due to them not being available for both the front + rear axles until now?

Running 2wd with Bills 8.8 alowed me to experiment with gearing. There are no gears available
for our bastard Dana 44.
This all started with me trying to get a 10 second na pass out of my 440. I tried all kinds of tire sizezes and combos!!
Paid my dues big time with nothing much to show at the end of the day.
The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Twin Turbo Creations For This Useful Post:
Chris was able to run the different gearing options because he is no longer running the factory Dana Super 44 Special in the rear, since he has no front diff, the gearing options for him are unlimited pretty much, but that came with a pretty fancy price tag if I'm not mistaken and he also went through a ton of gears on top of all that. If everything goes as planned, and these new gearing option become available for the Dana 44 special and a matching set for the Dana 30 up front, they will pretty much benefit every Jeep that makes over 500whp...being able to run the 3.07 gears in a 1000whp Jeep with twin LSD's would be killer!!

For us that are under 500whp we would certainly see mpg improvements but the truck won't be as quick from a dig. Should help with wheel spin, but will be a little doggier.
