I've seen quite a few LX's and Jeeps with the SHR cam and yes it makes great streetable power. The cam grinder they use is by far (IMHO the absolute best) at designing camshafts. He doesn't just take a popular grind from say Comp and "rename" it, he actually designs it from lift to duration to lobe shape and ramp rate. There's soooo much more to a cam than 218/224-568/574 on a 113 LSA. Everyone jumps on the numbers bandwagon and they tend to forget some very important criteria. Always remember a cam is the absolute heart of any engine and it dictates how much power and where that power will be made rpm wise.

Newfie.

That dyno chart is heads only and a ported manifold. The "wet flow" made another 25hp at the wheels over the Gen1 heads. The beauty of doing heads is no hassle tuning and in California or any other smog state no hassle with CO/NOX testing. Smooth idle and the dealer will never know.

I have my last set of Gen1 that I am blowing out for $1500 exchange.

HHP Stage3...0.50 lift - 224/228with a lift of in.547/ex.560 the LSA 117

They have made other changes beyond just the numbers. This is not a cookie cutter cam. Also the thing to consider is valve train noise and longevity of the valve train. Ask yourself if this is a daily driver or a weekend/track vehicle. Do you have close access and the time to dial it in with a tuner......and i dont mean email tuner.

I am also in the market for a new cam. This is my daily driver that I will put atleast 75K miles on before I get rid of it (if not more). I feel like I'm in the same boat as SRT8luvr. I was leaning towards the PPP Stage 2 cam. I want as much power as I could get with not having valvetrain problems.

I think we need to make a camshaft sticky that discusses everything from a dd cam to a track cam. Seems to be a popular conversation right now.

A camshaft sticky is not a bad idea at all. As with anything else it will be filled with lots of personal preferences which isn't necessarily a bad thing but may make a complicated decision even more complicated. Thats why it's best left to the experts. Theres lots of cam choices out there you just need to generate a list of what you want from your Jeep. There is no cam that does it all (better than stock) so you will have to make sacrifices somewhere. Do you want red light to red light power, power up top, power down low, somewhere in between, are you willing to change the springs, etc...etc.... You get the pic. Just be prepared to ask the right questions to get the cam your looking for. As far as the "biggest" cam you can get without valvetrain problems, I have no idea as theres some big cams out there. In comparison to some I know of 224/228 is almost stock Good luck and I hoped this helped a little.

FWIW, I'm a regular on ls1tech and Patrick G is the MAN for lsx cams. Maybe he'll chime in on the srt8 stuff. I know he has an FRI littlebody.

Good point. The stock cam is a good all rounder cam. Realizing that you need to 'pick' a sweet spot for the new cam, what are those that have done cams choosing as the sweet spot?

ye what seems to be best option to make power, definitely al preference but as stated, in end each cam has a range based on the lift ramp rate etc so being as stock our rigs have the red light power and awd etc etc we need that power up top normally for the most well rounded streetable machine, so for some who dont know which to get, ask around and see about getting a cam that will give you more hp up top, so look for more lift/duration and some bigger cams, make that power cuz these rigs hit that wall at 100 or even less for some stock of course haha. GL, MAKE THIS A STICKY!!!! stickies ftw!
