This sounds like it will do the trick. I ran HID low beams (in my GC SRT8 '07) both with and without the relay harness but I didn't have it connected in the method you described. When I ran them without I had one shot to turn the lows on and if the switch was turned off the car had to be completely powered down for about 30 secs to allow the lights to come back on. After about 4 months of this all of the lights on the headlight circuit went out simultaneously (guage lights, brake lights, tail lights, headlights) and it wasn't pretty. I got a new set of ballasts and used the relay second time around and the same thing happened about 6 months later. The dealer took everything out and put halogens back in. I am trying again this week by reinstalling the relay harness and using upgraded digital/ac ballasts. I will disable the auto on stuff to the extent that I can in the car settings. Oddly, HID fogs worked for 3 years until the fittings got corroded and shorted out and never had any issues turning on and off. Thanks for that tip with the unplugged passenger side harness.
