hey guys, as most of you know i lowered the jeep last week with the bwoody 1" - 1.7" kit. i got to drive it alot of the weekend and i noticed that the back end is "bottoming out" alot....like when hitting a bump really slamming hard...i called my buddy who installed the springs and asked if he trimmed the bump stops and he said no...
my question is how do i get the bottoming out to stop..??? trim the bump stops?? upgrade shocks from Stage 6??? help me out!!!
If you didn't trim or replace the rear bumpstop, then that's probably your culprit. Large bumps will cause the rear to bottom out into that bumpstop.
If you have removed or trimed the bumpstop, The axle tube on the rear end will make contact with the exhaust.......it actually will dent the exhaust tubing. It makes the truck sound like its falling apart. Mine did this like crazy for the first two years I had the Bwoody springs. I bought Wade's Stage 6 rear shocks when he sold his Jeep, and my truck hasn't bottomed out since.
I bought my truck lowered but I'm not sure which springs its on. But I'm having this same problem over big bumps my exhaust is hitting my rear axle. So you would suggest buying stage 6 shocks or is there another fix? Thanks
I'd definitely start by trimming the bump stops. Although, I don't think I've ever trimmed mine but yet I have one of the very first sets of BWoodies. The QA1's will stop probably 90% of the bottoming out. However, the big nasties can still cause it to bottom out. Problem is there really isn't much spring travel at all. I still want to try the 1.3" RM drop. I think that drop may be the best overall drop to go with IMO.
I would call Mike @ Bwoody and specifically ask him the correct way to install his springs. I have seen many threads like this and its usually from wrong installation of them.
But like Harrison said those big nasty bumps you will bottom out still. The Stage6/QA1's will definitely help.
My bwoodys do same man... my exhaust are mangled ... left tip an inch higher the righ t now.. I took bumps out as well as towers because the bang felt lime my rear screen exploded.... but it still hits diff and exhaust ... my new genuine stops and chopped down towers should help...
I hardly ever bottomed out my bwoody setup with the stage 6 shocks. That was even with a couple hundred extra pounds of luggage and tools in the cargo area. Every now and then they would, but otherwise rode great.
I have an 06 with 60,xxx on it. Stock suspension and if I hit a bump no matter how big or small, the bump stop hits. Sounds horrible. I have the Road Magnet springs at the house, waiting to get a couple hours of free time to install them. Wondering now if the shocks are blows or the stock springs are just worn out already for some reason. Can't really find anything on here pertaining to the same issue. Seems odd that an 06 with stock suspension would be worn out the bad already. I still have warranty so maybe I should just have them replace the shocks and then throw the springs on afterward. Any thoughts please feel free to share.
