What's the preferred brand of radar detector?

Escort and Valentine 1 are some of the best unless you want to go all out and install a K40.

Valentine 1. It's ugly, don't get me wrong, but once you have the arrows, you'll never be able to go to any other brand. I've had mine for about 5 years, and it's still going strong. When/if it gives up the ghost, I'll get another one. I had an escort solo before, and It barely lasted 2 years. Just my 2 cents!

This has been hashed out a few times... here is the last thread I know of.

Escort 9500IX is the SH!T canceling out the false signals makes driving less annoying lol

I agree wholeheartedly. You're going to slow down when you get an alert regardless of which ways the arrows are pointing so might as well limit alerts.

Shameless plug but if anyone wants to buy a laser interceptor system (best brand on market), new and in box contact me! Not installing because selling jeep shortly

I bought an escort 9500ix after reading all these great things.

Problem is.. I had previously owned/used a Valentine One.

The V1 killed the Escort in every category, not to mention it scans further front/behind/sideways.. and also has arrow indicators telling you where things are.

I've seen the escort commercials, youtube ads about how users report bogeys and how it's supposed to work.. but I never saw it work like that, once. Meh, maybe it's because I don't live in a major US metro, who knows.

For me. V1. No question. There is a reason you see V1's in Ferrari's Lambos, Porsches.

http://badassjeep.com/valentine-one-hardwire-install/ is an install in the 2014 if you're interested in the parts needed for mountina v1 to your mirror, using your mirror's power supply etc.

Escort is cheaper than V1 I think - also easier to buy which is why I think you see more Escort buyers. I still say V1 is better though, ask anyone that has used both extensively. the arrows are the deal breaker for me. Not one ticket with the V1 over eight years of owning one.

The review difference might be due to a large price difference as gyrly78 pointed out - The V1 doesn't cost as much as Amazon sells it for.

#10 ·
If you read the low reviews for the V1, its because they're selling it for almost $100 more on Amazon than from Valentine directly. Not because of the faults of the detector itself. Also, keep in mind if you are going somewhere where there are false alarms, and your escort knows it and mutes the alarm, if there is a cop there using the same band radar as the false alarms, you're done. You will not get an alert at all. Sure, it can be more annoying with the V1 because it will always alert you of incoming radar signal, no matter what. Absolutely amazing product.

I run the 9500ix and love it. Going to run the LI system in tandem with the 9500ix.

Love my 9500IX... I went with the corvette mount over the blendmount because I have a full truck very often and want the rear facing sensor above the stuff in back ;)

Blocking out the false signals is amazing, never realized how annoying the false ones are until they weren't there :D

Do you have a corvette mount link?

Thanks bro. Appreciate it.

I've also owned both and I couldn't sell the 9500ix fast enough. Yes, it alerts you, not saying it doesn't.. but the Valentine has further range, and alerts you with arrows as to the direction/location of the alert. That feature alone is worth it.

Just different approaches I guess. Upside, we both found what works for us. :D

I use the bel sti magnum, same as the top escort model. Why? undetectable by Ky State police who use detector detectors.
Each band can be turned off namely K band since the jeeps radar is K.

I've used the Escort products over the years. Started with an X50 blue, upgraded to the 9500i & then to the 9500ix. I have to say I love it. It stores false alerts (like speed signs) in particular so i don't hear them again. I'm super impressed with this unit. Gives loads of warning before you get picked up/ Not to mention the quality of the build.

This has been a heated discussion as everyone has their favorite. Fact is, they're all quite functional. Just boills down to what price ou want to pay for the features offered.

Had personal experience with both the Escort 9500ix and the Valentine One and I enjoyed the Valentine One MUCH more than the Passport. While removing false radars is nice, i found having significantly longer range is more important, and the arrows are pretty handy as well.

I think it depends on where you live, I had a escort 8500 x50 and loved the thing to death, was very straight forward,

I currently own a valentine one and it definitely picks up the signal a lot sooner, and the arrows are a plus, only downside is it's sensitive, but better safe than sorry, I also have that combined with the escort zr4 laser jammers, that was the best money I have ever spent. Saved my a** so many times, going to atco, with state troopers all the time. One time cruising 120, I got hit with laser, cop got no speed, and my buddy got nailed driving right next to me and got the ticket

I hardwired a Passport Max in a couple months ago. Very expensive, but I do not regret it. Some of the features: GPS for false alarm memory (works like a charm and storage is quick and easy) and for red light/speed cam alert (saved my azz already), customizable display colors, the BEST mounting system I've ever seen....wouldn't hesitate to buy another.....although still curious how the laser detector part can save you--wouldn't it only go off if the laser is pointed at you already????

I have used V1's religiously for years and was talked into a 9500ci to be installed in my 2010 Camaro. (I know the discussion is more on the ix but thought since this is escorts flagship detector it should be the best they have to offer.) Since the V1 was already hardwired I was running both until I got rid of the car. Each and every time the V1 would go off slightly before the Passport. That sold me. The 9500ci went with the Camaro.

never have gotten a speeding ticket but I use both V1 and passport 9500 lol. both are about equal but passport has gpd, speed traps, lock out, updates

I'm a little fuzzy on this directional indicator thing of the V1. How does that make a difference if the signal is coming from your right or left or whatever. Does that change your behavior as far as slowing down or what? Sounds completely useless to me, but then maybe I don't understand it properly.

I have both the 9500ci (on my 3rd vehicle now) and just purchased the AL Priority system... Should be getting both installed by the end of summer! Rearview mirror got sent out today to have the 9500ci display mounted inside it!
