I just finished the install. Outcome is still pretty nice

My Alpine is prod date Sep/2012. I got my BT can yesterday, same story. I went to OSH and picked up a 65MM M8 bolt and a couple 1/2 inch spacers from the misc parts bin. Used both new spacers and left off the spacer that came in the kit. Other than the fact I was impatient and didn't let the beast cool down things went fine.

ok heres the walkthru. if i knew this wasnt going to be so difficult, i wouldnt have made a thread like this in the first place, but here we are.

i went to home depot and picked up an M8 (or 8 mm) bolt x 80 mm long. the reason i went 80 mm is because i wanted to make sure i completely clear the colt pack cover. i also picked up about 20 M10 washers, because they were thicker than the M8 washers. overall, i installed 14 washers, along with the original spacer that came with the kit. i probably couldve installed a few more, just so the catch can could sit out a little more, but its all good. pics below. now i completely clear everything, and dont have to unbolt anything to empty the can.

I don't really like this method of putting too many washers. It may be easy to get losen up by the engine vibration. Better off getting another thick washer from the manufacture with patience.

Thats my plan just because I like the look of the spacers. Havent had any issues though with the washers and been on for 3,000 miles

Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Eeek, that looks goofy with those washers. Don't stores sell hollow aluminum pipe that could be cut to desired length?

Being out on the farm has the benefit of a full shop including a lathe. I'm thinking of making me a longer spacer like the pic. The bar stock I found is long enough to make more than one spacer so I could make a couple more. Either drilled for the bolt or tapped for studs. Really no cost involved other than donations for shipping. LMK.

I'm going to try and get on this within the next couple days so I'll post the pics. Basically I'm going to turn the whole piece down to the same diameter as the stock spacer and then cut it up into as many replacement sized ones as it will make. I have 1.0 inch now and it needs to be spaced out a little farther for the can to completely clear the cover and set 100% vertical so I'm thinking 1.375 inch each.

If the stud idea doesn't pan out for whatever reason I'm going to toss it back in the lathe and drill it out all the way and round up an 80 mm bolt.

I had to trim the plastic engine cover on that side to get mine to fit.
