Wet handling like a RWD ?

Its probably just me getting used to the new car, but i am surprised how easy it is to put the back end out in the wet.

Its a euro spec car, so 20x9's all round which i've got Hankook Ventus 275's fitted.

Straight line etc. is brilliant, but going round roundabouts (something which i think is pretty unique to the UK) it seems too easy for the back end to break away and the traction control like to flash up.

Is it the tyre choice or my lack of respect for the car so far ? - i've had enough performance RWDs to know what happens going round these roundabouts in the wet, but my previous AWDs - Toyota Celica GT4 and Subaru Forester Turbo wouldn't miss a beat driving as i have been - perhaps it just the massively better handling than my old GC is lulling me into driving like a low centre of gravity AWD car.

Does anyone have any experience of how the car handles when it does break away so i know what to expect should i get a little to over enthusiastic again....

Doesn't take much to swing the rear out on a roundabout, when I lived over there fwd cars would do it lretty easy too, little jerk of the steering wheel and woohoo fun times and a couple pissed off peeps...lol

Happened to me too. Not uncommon from what I've read here. When it's wet, watch out.

The AWD system is rear-biased and doesn't move power up front until slippage is detected. So it is possible to get the back end to slide a little before it kicks in.

Sometimes when taking a turn in the rain i can feel it want to get loose but it catches right away. Overall I think the jeep does great in the rain. Maybe get some different tires i got nitto 420's love them.

Find yourself a big empty lot to play in if possible and start testing the roundabout simulation limits. I pulled .97 of a g in some twisties in the rain, never getting above 65 mph and was rather shocked at just how well it handles in the rain. Yes it will hang the rear but only until the front kicks it straight. You just gotta find that comfort limit. Just remember to steer into it and have faith the front end is about to rescue you. LOL!

Thanks everyone - sounds like a tyre change might be an option - but the empty parking lot in the wet sounds like a great idea.

Just need to know what it does when it starts to break away, i'm guessing at least the rear end wont be overtaking the front end

I live in a town with hundreds of roundabouts so everyday is full of fun in the wet.

Only recently came round one to find a TVR Cerbera facing the wrong way in the wet...

I can't say I have noticed any problems in wet weather. When I collected the Jeep in 2008 it was pouring
with rain and it seemed to carry on like that for the rest of the year. The original Pirelli p zero's have
recently been replaced with the same. Could it be the tyres you have which may not have as good wet
weather grip?

Tires, tires, tires.......Get the Vreds. Best wet weather tire i have EVER seen. They are unreal in wet conditions, and dry for that matter. You will NEVER have that problem again. For real!

Driving in the rain with a jeep is no different then driving with any RWD car. Take your time and be safe.
