Drivers side, next to a large hunk of metal called the engine

It's burried up above the front driveshaft, behind a heat shield. It's a pain to get to.

So I'm trying to get my starter out, removed all 12 bolts around the flanges on the front driveshaft. Was able to tap on it and get the front flange to separate but can't get the rear flange to separate from the transfer case so I can pull the drive shaft out. Did you have this issue? Once I can get that damn thing out I can finally rebuild my starter and get the beast back on the road again.

Any and all help is more than welcome! Thanks guys!

The front drive shaft should compress. There is no need to remove the rear driveshaft.

I'm not removing the rear driveshaft. The rear "part" or flange of the front driveshaft won't separate from the transfer case. I didn't touch the rear driveshaft, I know it doesn't have to come out.

Like he said, the front drive shaft should compress enough to get it out.
