Im going to begin murdering out my Wk2. I have an 05 Gallardo that I want to match it, so I'm painting Calipers Lambo Yellow and everything else except hood vents will be black (those are yellow too). My question is i see a lot of people using vinyl vs etching and painting their chrome. Is this a cost thing or durability thing. My paint shop who did my escalade and super duty painted the chrome and for the most part with tiny exceptions has held up now for a couple years?
I went vinyl on my WK2 because it was less down time and I had a few parts wrapped in carbon fiber instead of matte black. The vinyl was a cheap way to see if I liked the look first. I am thinking I may have my carbon fiber pieces hydro dipped in carbon fiber in the future. Then I may want to paint other parts of my Jeep, if so I'd have the matte black vinyl around my windows removed and then painted. I just try to minimize the Jeeps downtime in the shop.
Its going to paint on Monday and if you guys knew something i didnt i was trying to avoid a costly mistake. Like i said i did my super duty bc the FX4 package comes with chrome bumpers and accents and I like it all black. going to do some engine parts yellow as well on the SRT8
Paint sucks. You bust your ass and pocket book and some truck tosses a boulder
at you and its trashed. No chips with vinyl, like ever.
Vinyl is obviously limited to dozens of cool azz colors, designs and very limited life span.
