91BlackSRT8 12-18-2007, 06:56 AM not crazy about it myself.
dennyt4 12-18-2007, 07:41 AM I'd buy another vehicle to tow with before I put that on my truck!
OurZoo 12-18-2007, 08:04 AM Absolutely embarrassing.

Yep.. what he said.
dsalogia 12-18-2007, 08:44 AM thats disgusting...if I ever see one like that on the road I'm spitting on it
a-kon 12-18-2007, 08:50 AM I think it is a joke...??
A friend of mine had a custom job done and it retains the stock exhaust while keeping the hitch receiver well-hidden. All you have to do is hook up a little attachment..
OurZoo 12-18-2007, 09:21 AM Unfortunately it's not a joke.
kramsay1234 12-18-2007, 09:45 AM Wow that looks awesome!! What did I waste my time for with that thing coming out...
2BADGN 12-18-2007, 09:53 AM Not feeling it.

srt8 for me 12-18-2007, 03:09 PM What zoo said...+ eewww
+10......
Until the hitch gets sold by itself, no sale for me. The $700 or so for the exhaust is ridiculous and only works on the stock exhaust plus is so damn ugly. What a bunch of C R A P!
Hey Resume let us know when they start selling just the hitch.

Well you can buy just the hitch now but I don't think it will fit w/o the exhaust upgrade...

Are you sure? I would rather spend a $100 something and be wrong. SRT engineers said it can't be sold separately on the chat a couple months ago. If you can get just the hitch pm me and let me know where.

The parts are packaged and sold separately as there are different quantities in stock of No. 1 and 2 below. I believe that the engineers said that you could not install the hitch w/o the upgrade kit, not that they weren't available separately. If you want to attempt ordering just the hitch just put an order in at your local dealer and see if the system accepts the single part number (I bet it will). They really have to have them available separately, for replacement part reasons. But I would guess that they have designed it so that one cannot simply install just the hitch.

Fixed it for you. :p
What a horrible look. I'd get the hitch, don't want the beaver teeth. I'll gladly re route my wiring harness so it doesn't get torched by the exhaust. As for the ball and trailer connection getting a little toasty I can live with not being able to touch it for 30min after turning off the jeep. If it's so hot they claim it would cause damage, I call BS, it's an exhaust, not a flamethrower. ;)
ABMResto 12-19-2007, 04:03 PM YECH!!! Just buy a pickup truck to tow with!
Grip Grip 12-19-2007, 05:01 PM How could engineers that designed such a masterpiece as the JGC SRT8 really expect anyone to install such a piece of s h i t as that?

FYI, I called my dealer and they told me they would order whatever I wanted. So, I ordered just the hitch, no exhaust. Grand total came to $139 after tax. I had been waiting a couple of months for it. I am assuming I have the first one made since the dealer was waiting for a supplier to make it and only one had been ordered...mine. So far it works great. I have used it to tow a 2 place enclosed snowmobile trailer w/ 2 sleds. It was kind of a pain to put on as you had to drop the exhaust and remove the rear bumper cover. I will say this though, I had the curt hitch and my jet ski trailer was always warm. (I used gloves to unhook it) Now with the new hitch, I can touch the trailer with my bare hands. (I am sure this has a lot to do with it being 30 degrees around here right now) Anyway, it clears the factory exhaust just fine and I am sure it will work with any after market exhaust due to the way it mounts. I rotated the exhaust down a bit so I wouldn't hear it bang on the hitch over big bumps. It does stick out past the bumper and does take a little away from the center exhaust, but I don't usually see the back end anyway and it does what I need, so I am happy with it. And best of all......no beaver toothed exhaust.

SRT8ITWHOLE 12-28-2007, 09:41 AM When I can get my fabricator to get to my custom hitch actually prototyped and installed, I will post pics. It will be a much easier install and the beloved twins will remain intact. Should be in the next couple of weeks.
KNOURROL 12-28-2007, 01:43 PM Here are a couple of pics. I know, I know, it needs a wash, and if it would stop raining, it would get one. :D

Thanks for the pics.
I wish it did not stick so far out from the bumber.
Metraman 12-30-2007, 06:41 AM Hi Hnourrol What did you do for wiring I don't see it in the picture?
Thanks
KNOURROL 12-30-2007, 08:33 AM Hi Hnourrol What did you do for wiring I don't see it in the picture?

Right now I made an "extension" that plugs into the harness and then routes over the top of the receiver and zip tied it to the tongue. I plug the trailer into that. The kit comes with a plate to mount the harness to and then you need to buy a box and secure it to the bumper somewhere. I haven't done it yet, but I will soon because crawling under the jeep to plug in the "extension" is getting old fast. It works nice though for keeping the harness away from the heat.
I have pics of it not installed in case anyone was wondering.

Thanks for the photos I have my hitch without the pipes as well. I don't want the new pipes either, but other than the cost, I really think most of you make way to much about the look. I bought the Jeep for what it could do, not the look or would have bought any one of the cars instead.
DRJJH1 01-19-2008, 09:59 AM How difficult would it be for an amature to install this themselves? I am not going to need to do the wiring.. Just the hitch... I want to use it for a mountian bike/snowboard rack?? Also does anyone know if this comes with directions?

Get the Kurt hitch. This one is a lot more difficult to install.

Yes, it comes with directions. You need normal tools except to put the new plastic rivets back into the rear bumber up in the wheel well. The rivet is larger than a normal rivet gun will take. The hardest part was getting the bumper off. Once you do that, it really isn't that hard. If you are just going to be using it for a bike/snowboard I would recommend the curt hitch also. That one only took 10 minutes to install.

kramsay1234 01-20-2008, 06:28 PM is great that it fits on without the hideous exhaust.
