: just got a 3" custom exhaust...

I've been waiting a while for the Borla mufflers I ordered to arrive, they finally got here and it turns out they are too big! So I ended up just putting dual 3" straight pipes instead of the factory muffler. In the picture you can see the noise baffles at the end of the straight pipes, just before the 3" to 2.75" reducers. I don't know how loud it would be without them but the way it is now it's pretty loud.

While in the shop on the lift I started it up with the exhaust completely disconnected, I have a video clip which I can email if anyone wants it.

The way it is now, it has a raspy-roar kind of sound, but I would prefer it to be a lower pitched growl with less volume. I think I'm going to order some smaller Borla's to make it quieter. I guess I prefer the speak-softly-and-carry-a-big-stick method!

also... check out the stock muffler... one side is straight through and the other side is totally blocked! WTF???

And I noticed the cat pipes are dual walled... the outside is 3" but the inside is only around 2.75"

Nice Job!

I'd like to see that video; my email address is below. Also, how 'bout making one of your current setup? :D I can't make up my mind as too whether or not I want it really loud or just a little loud, so I'm mostly interested in hearing your current setup. If your thinking it's too loud I may love it.

So, what's if feel like off the line with less back pressure? The same or better, right?

I just had a magnaflow muffler installed to replace the GC SRT8 stock muffler. We noticed the same thing with the stock muffler - half baffled on passenger side and open on the driver's side. My muffler guy has been doing performance mufflers for 26 years, he thought it was strange too. Anyway, sound wise its not much different than the stock, maybe slightly deeper and it sounds a bit more balanced. I haven't really opened it up yet (230 miles).

The muffler was around $160. Also from what he told me the stock resonators are clear through, no baffle. I'll try to get a sound clip and a few pictures underneath.

i made a compilation of the videos and found a place to upload it.... it's under 4 megs:

it's the same video I emailed to everyone who asked

please excuse the quality, I was just messing around to see how the audio quality would be with my new digicam, didn't think I would be posting these!

also... gripgrip and srt8mafia, I recommend you edit your post and remove your email address, to avoid possible spam.

Wow, thanks for the video. Doesn't sound too loud at all!. And yes it doesn't sound as deep as i hoped.. Looks like your right around the same MPG I was at during low miles. Don't worry, mine started avg 13.8-15.0 once I got about 3000 miles on the clock. Which isn't that great, but it damn sure beats what I started out with!

DCX did design the muffler that way on purpose. Why? Backpressure for PCM tune. They do like one system though. PM me for the name. Gene PS. I just came back from the Nats in Topeka and discussed this with the ENGs there.
