The guy that fills my nitrous bottle told me that the city just ordered a whole bunch of Grand Cherokee SRT8's for the police department. He apparently is being contracted to do some work on them once they get them. He had never seen a JGC SRT8 until I got my bottle filled up at his shop about a month and a half ago. I guess I can't outrun the cops now.......:D J/K

I recently saw a FHP Sargent thats a friend of the family, he checked out the ride and commented on how it would make a great car for the FHP

I though that was a far fetched Idea

I am thinking that the guy is mistaken. The city probably ordered some of the 5.7l ones. He probably doesn't realize the difference between the two. There are a couple of police Chargers around here but they are the 5.7 liter models.

yeah- local police departments would love to buy several SRTs at over $40K (discounted) each. How much more for premium gas, synthetic oil changes, etc.? Unless they $hit gold, he may have meant srt 4 neons

The Windsor, Canada Police department used an 06 GCSRT during the Detroit Superbowl.

I at one time found a side view, but this is all I can find of it now:

out here on L.I. we have alot of small local police houses, brookville, glen cove, old westbury,freeport,ect...i think they can choose what ever vehicle they want since some of these places only have like 3 or 4 cars...center island just switched over to volvo suv's.and lake success has murdered chargers, 5.7's,totally blacked out, rims & everything! and no lights on the roof. i see them almost every day on the L.I.E. with cars pulled over, the charger looks mean as hell. i want to get a picture of it,i have to find out where theier police booth is..it's only a matter of time i guess before someone gets a jeep SRT8

We have this come up from time to time over on the charger board. it's always someone who talked to someone who works on the local or state departments Charger SRT8. Never any proof that they were purchased by the department for police use. There may have been an instance of a personal vehicle, or seized vehicle being used, but thats it.

As previously stated, premium, fuel, synthetic oil changes, tires and brakes on these at the intervals required on police vehicles is prohibitive. Oh and wheels, cops are rough on wheels. The low clearance of the front valance alone would last about three days.

I dont think so, the fuel cost alone would break the cities bank. 5.7L with performance mods are as far as most departments will go. But if true and you ever see one, please send pictures.

This is a town of about 25,000 people and the taxes are high as crap so I don't think that money is the issue. I just think that guy was mistaken. I will be really surprised if I see a cop driving the same vehicle as me. As of right now I have the only one in town. I like it that way to. I get so many looks and comments. I love it.

.............+1. They should have better things to spend taxpayers $ on.

But let's look at this. Regardless of which they go with, they'd likely put in bigger gas tanks so to avoid the fill ups every 3-4 hours. Assuming this is true (as with some other model cop cars) then maybe, just maybe we could install them in ours. I would love to have a 25-30 gallon tank.

Just my 2 cents.

That's not going to change the dismal fuel economy (not to mention the added weight that a police cruiser requires), the fact it needs premium fuel, and the relatively expensive overall maintenance.
Let's face it, they aren't the greatest (compared to a 4wd tahoe or exploder) in the snow either.

I'm not saying it would increase the mpg, only the range.

I agree, not the best in the snow. My wife's XC90 is much better.....but's also like 200hp less and has far more electrical nannies keeping everything where it should be.

I agree this would be an awesome vehicle to drive while on patrol. I can't see it happening because of the price and fuel economy. Chrysler would have to offer a discount for police vehicles just like Ford and Chevy. I can only hope.....cuz it would be fun.
