: 160+ Mph Picture
BahnBlastR 08-31-2006, 01:09 PM OK Guys, I was on the way home today and remembered that I had my camera in the truck. I hate taking pictures at these speeds, so I hope you appreciate the effort!:D
As you can see just above the dash I am coming up on a curve, so I had to take what I could get. I don't like taking that curve faster than 125, so I was hard on the brakes after the photo op. The RPM's are just bumping into the 6K's so there is more left in this thing. If I can get out this weekend I'll try to get one over the 165 MPH mark.
Thanks for being patient! Be safe out there!
MJ
I love it!!!! Just know that I live vicariously through your stories of speed.
El Jefe 08-31-2006, 01:27 PM Thats awesome!
Black_SRT8 08-31-2006, 01:41 PM I want to join the 160 club. Well, I will follow suit tonight ;)
SilverSRT8 08-31-2006, 01:58 PM Does 160 count if it is in my STi? I have done that already. I haven't gone past 130 in the Jeep. I am a bit hesitant to go that fast. Plus Colorado roads are pretty crappy.
BahnBlastR 08-31-2006, 02:23 PM I thought that the STi was electronically limited to 155? My Infiniti is electronically limited to 156.... A buddy of mine couldn't push his STi into the 160 zone over here, so that's why I ask the question. If you haven't taken the Jeep past 130 then you are missing one of the coolest things about this rig. If you mash the throttle and let it run through the gears, it'll shift from 4th to 5th at 140 MPH - everytime. It is like instant stress management for me on the way home every day. Hell, I'm such a dork that I find myself quoting Star Trek in third gear with "take me to warp drive #1". Call me crazy if you want, but when you are blazing by the slow people it sure is fun!
Oh, and by the way, it doesn't count in the STi!! This is a GCSRT8 forum. :-) Thanks for playing though.......
SilverSRT8 08-31-2006, 03:55 PM A stock STi is limited to 147mph. I have a Cobb Tuning Stage 2 kit. with a TB Exhaust w/ no cats, CAI, and par tof the stage 2 is a programmer with a custom map that took the limit from 147 to 310mph (even though 310 is impossible) If you go to www.cobbtuning.com you can read about it or here is a link to the actual notes for the map....
http://www.cobbtuning.com/sti/accessport/docs04/stage2%2091%20oct.txt
But yeah even 160 was pretty fast for me. I can never find a spot to get my car over 130. I did the 160 in Wyoming where there are no cops and... actually there is nothing in Wyoming.
split2112 08-31-2006, 04:05 PM glorious my friend...glorious....i just showed that pic to all of my coworkers with a huge smile on my face
Fast1 08-31-2006, 04:37 PM That's impressive! I'd love to drive on that road.
jordo9998 08-31-2006, 07:11 PM great pic.
I can see the road is on a slight hill going down when you took that pic, so i'm sure that helped out a bit when you mashed it?
surface tension 08-31-2006, 08:47 PM Nice!!!! I have reached 140 mph. Soon 160+!!!!
BahnBlastR 08-31-2006, 10:42 PM great pic.

Good eye!! Yes, this section is on a downhill run, but its one of the only sections on my commute where I could bust the 140 mark comfortably (traffic permitting of course). The downhill may have given assistance getting to this speed quickly, but this thing pulls this hill the other direction at 150+ with no problem or hesitation. With enough space and good wind direction (at my back), this thing is capable of scary fast speeds. It just seems sureal when you look at the thing sitting in your driveway or garage and realize that this brick will actually go this fast!!
And Silver, I was yanking your chain about the STi, I am a regular on the Cobb site and a couple of Subi sites. I would like to build a monster Forester just to humble some folks!! :) The cool thing about a Forester XT is that the $$ outlay for a truly fast Forester isn't really that bad, if you don't go crazy with visual mods. There are two REALLY fast STi's (highly modded) running around on the installation that I work on. There was also a nice Evo IV running here but he totalled it at the Nurburgring. OUCH. That seems to happen a lot with the "Ricer" crowd here. Guys will bring a Nissan Skyline turbo, or GTR with a twin turbo over here and think they are and instant race driver. They quickly realize that the "Ring" does not suffer fools well. Lots of accidents and totalled cars this year with three deaths so far.
OK, enough drivle. Keep it safe and humble a "sports car" when you get the chance.
ONE LAST THING! I wasted a new Eclipse yesterday, so the thread with the "I beat an SRT8" is not really accurate. Just my 2 cents for the day.
srt-8-inferno 09-01-2006, 09:44 AM WOW... very nice!!!!! I still have my work cut out for me since I haven't had the beast above 105 mph. And it is killing me that I am on vacation with-out it. :(

I went and visited the COBB guys last summer. This is what made my mind up on who to go through for my performance. They had a Forester there was modded out! It was pretty crazy. Its just another SUVish car that can toast many other cars. The custom cars they do for their own shop are nuts. I am done modding mine for now. I need to get some stuff done to the jeep. it is still stock!
NateO 09-01-2006, 01:04 PM Awesome!!
One quick question... What's the gas mileage like at 160 mph? :D ;)
mabosc223 09-01-2006, 01:19 PM I thought that the STi was electronically limited to 155? My Infiniti is electronically limited to 156.... Very impressive my friend. I have had it up to 125-130, but the roads in Cleveland are crap. And it seems everytime I get up that high the GC starts dancing in the wind sorta. I know GSM is coming out with something to stabalize the GC SRT8 a little better. Can't Wait to tighten up this beast.
whipple1 09-02-2006, 09:28 PM Thats a pretty sick pic,How fast did that car in front of you come up,I guess at one 160 mph LOL.Im always afraid passing someone that fast that they'll swerve into me did you have time to slow down,or did you still pass him at 140+.The jeep has a 155mph limit, what mod did you use?Again nice pic.
BahnBlastR 09-03-2006, 01:27 AM Hey Whipple, couple of things - the Jeep is aerodynamically and rev-limited only. No electronic speed limiter. Also, on the autobahn there are some catches that go along with unlimited speed. If you crash at any speed over 130 kliks (the recommended speed limit of about 86 MPH) your insurance company doesn't have to pay. Also, while there are some locals that drive very fast in high-traffic situations, common sense is king. Germans tend to be a little more attentive to what's coming up behind them than your average American. If you look at many German cars, there are no cup holders/DVD players/bull**** to keep you distracted from the task of driving. Unlike Dallas traffic that I spent years battling people doing make-up, or their hair, or reading, eating, yapping on phones, etc. instead of DRIVING!! But I have had plenty of opportunities to test the Brembos here when some ****head pulls out at the last minute. And yes, I blew by the guy at 140 or so, but that is really not that uncommon. I was more worried about getting to the curve at no more than 120-125.
whipple1 09-03-2006, 04:47 AM BahnBlastR,Thanks for the reply.I have a 2002 denali with a whipple charger ,whipple programer it removes the torque management and speed limiter to 99,130,or unlimited.I choosed unlimited of course. You can try it with that but when you hit the turn you will need to slow down to about 60 mph LOL,and no brembos so hold on tight.Im assuming it will hit the 150 range I live in new york so there is no were to try that. Its either crash or get locked up ,I didnt choose yet. Thanks again for thr info.
radduc 09-03-2006, 06:22 PM I have had my Jeep indicating 167 MPh and it was ROCK SOLID actually at that speed it felt better then my SL55 beleive it or not.
BahnBlastR 09-04-2006, 12:01 AM Good on ya Radduc! You are right about this rig's stability. At speeds over 120 MPH it is more confindence inspiring than my G35 Coupe. It even has the "aero" package with under-body diffusers and the rear wing. The Jeep takes some getting used to driving at high speed though. Some of the body movement is unsettling at first, but if you don't over-react and ride it out its OK. The only time this thing feels frisky is during a high-speed turn that has an abrupt expansion joint. The first time I experienced this, the pucker factor was pretty high. I have since learned not to over compensate at the wheel and just let the truck do its thing.
I would love to go to the track day when I get back to the States to see how these things can be "pushed" at speed. On public roads, with $45K of my hard-earned money on the line, I'll just keep it conservative! Unless there is no traffic and its a long straight-away!!
boomer 09-04-2006, 01:25 AM hows the ride at 160 (other then exilerhating) i think i spelled that wrong, forgive me. was there any shaking or did she just float?
BahnBlastR 09-04-2006, 11:44 AM Hey Boomer! Go Cheeseheads! As Radduc stated earlier in the thread, this truck is exceptionally buttoned down at speed. Realize that this ain't a Vette sitting 4 inches off the ground and it has the aerodynamics of a brick and its amazing how straight-line stable it is at speed. I road tripped today for about 300 miles of mixed backroads and autobahn and averaged 13.1 MPG. The last 40 miles home we averaged 132 MPH with two bursts over 150 and my wife didn't reach for the "Oh ****" handle all day. Now that's stable. :D
radduc 09-04-2006, 07:52 PM I remember driving my Porsche 993 up to 160ish and the front would wander side to side.None of that in the Jeep.It feels like a brick **** house,Very stable
BahnBlastR 09-04-2006, 10:32 PM None of that in the Jeep.It feels like a brick **** house,Very stable
Ditto! Well said.
whiskey 02-23-2007, 11:10 AM You are my hero.
Tom C 02-23-2007, 11:25 AM Bahn:
I know this thread was started way back and you no longer are over in Germany...but I have to ask...what did you keep your tire pressure at? From the pic, it looks like your fronts were at 34 psi and rears at 35 psi. This seems a little strange that the tire pressure would be that low at such a high speed. I guess they could have been much lower cold and they "warmed up" to the pressure shown.
What is funny is that my Audi RS6 had the mfg's suggested tire pressure thing on the door with an almost sliding scale based on passenger weight and speed. For "high speed" driving, it suggested a very high tire pressure (which I always kept for my 100+mph sprints). I keep my pressure high on the GC SRT8....for the same reason.
Tom
BahnBlastR 02-23-2007, 12:11 PM Hey Tom, I normally tried to keep the pressure at 36 cold. I think that was on a pretty cool day. I would see fluctuations of 4-5 lbs on some days over there depending on the outside temp. Damn I miss it.............
kramsay1234 02-23-2007, 02:12 PM Anyone in Canada care to take her up to 275 km/hr? I am sure everyone would love to see that photo of the speedo since ours goes up to 300!
I personally would do the run, but I know the cops would not enjoy my excuse of "I did it to take a picture at that speed for an internet forum". I am sure the response would be, "oh well then, carry on. Sorry I had to have you slow down"
;)

nagra8 02-23-2007, 07:42 PM I took My (DAD'S) 2004 dodge viper up to 170 mph and I live in Alberta Canada 500 km north of Edmonton. I was on my way to edmonton there was 2 lanes and i had to use up both just to keep the thing on the road it would jump from lane to lane on its own which is a very scary thought when your only 18 years old. But i must say once you take your first breath on the slowdown its one of the best feelings i have encountered. And i heard a few of you guys complaining about bad roads in the states ive seen pot holes here that could consume a entire civic ;)
