: Chrystler service put in wrong oil!!!!!
SkyeHighSRT8 12-04-2007, 10:03 AM I brought my SRT8 GC to a 5 star chrystler dealer for an oil change, brake recall, and tsb's for brake squeal and trans howl.
They performed all the tsbs I requested and I had them so an oil change. I live an hour and a half from a SRT certified mechanic so I got it done early while I was there.
I got home, and looked closer at the receipt and saw hemi 5w-30 was used.
I'm pissed, and I have to drive an hour and a half back there.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT ANY DAMAGE WAS DONE?
dealer:
Roger Williams Chystler/Jeep
Weatherford TX
promo718 12-04-2007, 10:07 AM no damage, but try to get them to cough up for the gas money/time you are losing because of their mistake.
sy1616 12-04-2007, 01:43 PM Holy crap, don't drive that thing another inch, you're facing a total seizure of your motor. Have it towed back there and have them get each and ever drop out. What a bunch of morons, I would sue them for sure. You may as well put pancake syrup in the motor and have the same wear resistance and cooling characteristics.
Just kidding, you're fine :)
navyavi469 12-04-2007, 04:55 PM Yup.. jeep is fine... you could probably run power steering fluid in it and drive across the country with minimally more wear than a full sythetic.

Oh no. I am at the dealer as I speak for the same thing. They are really great. I am sure they will do it right. Plus, the service manager personally came out and turned on the side mirror tilt when in reverse. He said that it was going to cost me $140.00. Of course he was kidding. They treat me really well.
qluber 12-04-2007, 07:22 PM There is a great possiblity that you might make 1 maybe 2 more horsepower with 5w30, might be a good time for a dyno pull!:D
SkyeHighSRT8 12-04-2007, 07:27 PM Well I called them, the service advisor swore up and down that it was an error on the ticket, and that they put in the right oil. This was the fist time doing business with them so I don't know if I can trust it.
What do ya'll think I should do?

Forget the dyno pull:rolleyes:

Perform a taste test. Get a quart of Mobil 1 (although I use AMSOIL...but that's another thread) and dip your finger in it and rub a little between the cheek and gum. Then pull your oil dipstick and do the same with the stuff on the end. If you gag or vomit you'll have to start over after gargling with listerine:eek: If they don't taste the same....you're screwed.
Seriously though, salt and pepper to taste...really helps choke it down.
No, seriously, sounds like your decision is, trust them or get it changed by someone else. You could complain to Chrysler, but it sounds like the dealership is sure of themselves. Going a few hundred miles on the oil won't hurt anything.
ram_g 12-04-2007, 07:58 PM Ah, the power of marketing!
Going for one full oil change interval on dino 5W30 instead of synthetic 0W40 will make just about NO difference to the life of the engine. The service manager knows this fact, more than he knows whether or not the synthetic oil was put in. About the only harm done was to your wallet, in terms of paying for the more expensive oil.
Forget it and move on, would be my strong recommendation.

mingoglia 12-04-2007, 08:23 PM I would tell them that you want a free extended warranty because you're unsure what the long term affects will be. Afterall, Chrysler is always so quick at denying warranty coverage and even "voiding" parts of the engine warranty if you don't follow the rules... so give them a taste of their own medicine. The opposite of voiding a warranty (which they might try to do to you if you put in the wrong fluids) is extending the warranty...
But yeah, you're fine... although I would have it changed. I'm not sure if the dealer checks the dipstick when they're done adding oil or perhaps they know how much oil to add (per the FSM). If they thought it was the 5.7L I wonder if there's a chance they underfilled it?

SRTYA 12-04-2007, 08:48 PM Maybe I am just too critical but I would insist that they change the oil again (at no charge of course) and state that you want to watch. More for the principle of not letting the dealer think they can get away with blowing smoke up your or anyone’s azz then anything else. I would bet anything they put the wrong oil in and rather than do the proper thing they just want you to shut up and go away. Like Danny Devito said in Lethal Weapon "they F _ _ K you in the drive through!!!" The dealer needs to be held accountable for the mistake I don’t let them get away with anything.
Rick G 12-05-2007, 03:49 AM Make sure to check the oil level after a change. My 5 star dealership managed to put 8 quarts in on my second change that I paid for. My first oil change that they paid for they put in the proper 7 quarts.
art warner 12-05-2007, 06:44 AM I hate to say it but I service mySRT8 at my Nissan dealer. They love this Jeep the the service is tops. Changed the oil yesterday, service manager tells me to bring my own oil and filter and the change it for $10. I have sent more business to these guys and have bought numerous rides, but not my jeep.
budmag 12-05-2007, 07:02 AM Send it to Blackstone Labs for an analysis, and if they lied, sue em!

+1
There's no way he knows whats in there. It probably won't hurt your engine, but you PAID for synthetic. That is what you should get. Take it in and get them to change it.
OurZoo 12-05-2007, 07:48 AM I'm with sending to Blackstone as well. Great idea!
SkyeHighSRT8 12-05-2007, 10:38 AM Ok..thanks Ram. The climate in Texas is VERY mild this time of year too. I'm just going to wait till the change is due the take it somewhere else.
I paid for 5w-30.
how much does it cost to blackstone check?

Remember, if you excite them too much, they'll take revenge.
A BB or something might just fall in the oil hole. Or some metal shavings...

This is true and that is one more reason besides them being incompetent that I would switch dealers immediately after the new oil is in. If the tables were turned they would not give us an inch so why should we.

This time of year you shouldn't get any extremes in the weather. Don't worry about it and change the oil in 3,000 Miles. Next time be with the vehicle when the Oil is put in.

you have reverse side mirror tilt??????
SkyeHighSRT8 01-10-2008, 12:18 PM tdutton40...you might want to PM the question to six777 this thread is pretty old.
medihummer 01-13-2008, 10:36 AM I have the same problem with service centers in Belgium. The problem is that in Belgium there are about 3 SRT8's delivered all over belgium! (we pay 2.2 US dollar for 1 liter fuel). The service points have absolutely no experience with this oils and they use 5W30 as they use for every other car. This is a full synthetic oil. I don't believe it can harm but our SRT8 is like our second girlfriend isn't it? I wouldn't dear to buy a gold plated ring instead of a full gold one for my girlfriend. The same with the oil. Mobile 1 0W40 (pay attention Mobile 1 5w30 for diesels exists also) is the best oil in the world. If you warm up your engine parts under extreme circumstances it'll stay more stable then another oil. In normal circumstances i don't think the engine ever knows the difference. And after all I love my car so much that i couldn't bear it that it is not filled up with the best oil in the world. So my advise is, Buy MOBIL 1 0w40 yourself and let them show you the empty bottles after the service. Have had no service point that didn't want to do it.
How much oil does your cars use on 1000 km? I think mine uses 500cc and i find that rather a lot.
SkyeHighSRT8 01-16-2008, 11:29 AM Mine doesn't really use any oil. Not enough to were I need to add between oil changes.
ram_g 01-16-2008, 11:37 AM Re: using oil - what I've discovered is that my SRT seems to like an oil level about midway along the hatched section of the dipstick. Early on I was filling it to the top line and it was consuming about a half a quart every 500 miles, which is not too far from 500 cc every 1000 km. I realized that the oil level would fall to the "sweet spot" and then stay there. I've been closely monitoring it and find that if I leave the oil level at about that mark it stays there with no real consumption to speak of.
