Has anyone broke a piston yet? I was getting a mis-fire code and then I checked my plugs and one was smashed. took the head off to make sure and the piston had a chip in it. Was trying to see if any one else has had that problem.

That sounds like something went through the cylinder & hit the plug & piston.

The NX has never been sprayed and the motor has 45 miles on it.

Is it not feasible to drop a 6.1 into a 5.7 using vehicle? Are the exterior dimensions that different?

I personally know SHSU - he has an extremely modified Ram P/U... and one of the mods is that he dropped in a 6.1 Hemi.

No every thing is a bolt up. The block is pretty much the same and all in the parts you can inter change between the two. Headers, heads, cam, and intake fit both motors. now if they will work in the jeep... not sure? see the headers are long and might not fit, but the shorties should. These are uncharted waters, but they are the same and the only thing needing work was the fuel and a wiring harness. I had to get a E-fan installed because of the intake would hit the shrowd and the truck was running very strong. I am the first guy to take a srt-10 rear-end and put it under a ram 1500 that was not a srt-10. The truck use to have a 04 front end which was removed and replaced with a whole 06 front-end. The truck was white and now is Blue Blood Red from House of Kolor. The bed liner has the stripes in the bed too (all coloer matched. I am a gear head junkie and my job just feeds on it. I worked for Discount Tire Co. for 6 years working on all the cars you could dream of from Hummers with auto inflates to a Ferri with one lug nut torqued at 450 lbs. tried out for the Discount Tire race car pit crew but my bad knee from football slowed me down and lost out by .142 secs. I now work for Royal Purple since I just finished college with a degree in Accounting. I am young and will try almost anything to just say I was first when it comes to my ride. I have owned 2 hemis and had one of the first 4/6 drops with 22s and as far as I know was the only single cab with 4 rockford 12 behind the seat with out porting to the bed. Glad to be part of the srt-8 group and hope to help where I can and learn as well.

Props to you for taking on a unique project. Do you have any real world experience as to the strength of a 6.1L block, and rot. assembly? What are the limits of the valvetrain (springs in terms of lift/rpm)?

don't know too much about the strength of anything because the truck has not really done much. it has started a few times went to Texas Heat Wave and then back to the shop. never even seen over 55 mph. Have some number for some of the things some where, but it is mainly a stock 6.1 with a stage II NX kit that has never been sprayed.

it's nice to see someone thinking outside of the box.
we will start to see the limits of the short block once the tuning comes out and people start making crazy boost.:D

It is written as if there were some Rams built with the 6.1, no indication he had installed one after the fact.

well no there are none that came with a 6.1 but there are some in the making and mine that is built just not fully running
