This guys is telling me there was an SRT8 Jeep street racing and beating Mustang GT's all night. He pulled up in his 06 Eclipse GT 6 spd, the Jeep beat him off the line and the Jeep never caught up. Please someone help me bash this guy into the ground.:mad: Anyone raced and humilitated one?

Heres what he said, "So I raced an SRT8 Jeep and won???? wtf... raced from a stop, jeep launched out on me by about a car and half, reeled him in in 2nd, passed him at about 65-70 and kept a steady pull on him... now i was looking online and most of these things are running mid-low 13's.... driver error isnt a factor being its automatic and awd, and he stalled up and put a hurting on me off the line. so i would really like to figure out whats up with my car and why i pulled a srt8 jeep and a ls1 camaro in the past week. My car is a f'n v6 i figured the fbody just couldnt drive(was a 6spd)

funniest part was the look on the guys face when my little rice rocket passed him, uber hilarious....."

Bull****. With a great driver (powerful fwd and street don't mix) they will run mid 14s.

The only shot an Eclipse has on an SRT is a HUGELY modded Eclipse.

I had 2 guys in a new eclipse pull up to me a week ago and give me thumbs up. They knew what was up. they didn't even bother to try to race me. I am going with, that the Jeep had no idea that a race was going to happen.

My 06 GT which should be putting around 280-290 to the wheels, (320 crank) has run a best 13.97, but that was a hot day, I'm sure it's capable of 13.7's in current trim. The driver mod would prolly get it into the 13.6's.

Thing you've got to remember is with street racing the driver is much more important, you're dealing with traction issues much more. It is a distinct possiblity that the srt8 just made a bad run vs a really good run in the eclipse, frankly It doesn't suprise me much that the eclipse could beat the jeep, 0.5 sec on 14 sec car can be made up with a really minor mistake.

The 2nd guy has obviously never driven or ridden in an srt8. If theyve got traction off the line(which in this case he obviously did) then its over, end of story.

This is very funny, my wife has a 06 eclipse as a company car. She also can drive very well. She gets a good jump out of the hole, barks the tires slams 2nd. By this time i am pulling away. At 80 its 8 cars and pulling . Last week at the track at night i saw a jeep run 8.41 in the 1/8.

just part of the hustle. We used to do it with our 408 stroker Grand Cherokee. We'd just lose like people expected us to. "It's just a jeep, it ll never beat a Grand National." Then a bigger fish would come along, talking a big game, and he'd get stomed. :D

That's funny as hell! You can tell a true street racer, we're stupid as a fox! The idea is to play, and give him a chance, and just reel him in with the "somthing's not right, I swear my vehicle is faster." then you proceed to race, and beat him by a fender or half a car. THEN HE THINKS "IT'S ON!". Now, after he's bragged on his best 2 out of three and he's gonna stomp you on the last one, you walk away from him like he didn't know he was supposed to hit the gas.

That's a race, and the 4 cylinder import crowd ALWAYS bites! Thanks mosly because of movies like The Fast and the Furious! They think that they have a real race car.

do the math Jeep 420 hp 4700 lb. 11 lb. per hp eclipse 263 hp 3500 lb. 13 lb. per hp the eclipse can't win. the eclipse would have more than 310 hp. figures very rough but they don't lie either.

the nice thing about eclipses is that the gearing is so short, you're out of 3rd by around 85ish, and out of 4th at around 110.... gearing helps you ALOT in a street race.

I think theres a stock Eclipse next to it than wasnt able to make it in any angle...haha. At least that whats the title says

OK, any front wheel drive that runs mid 13's from the factory needs more than just a little more power to be that quick. What is the power difference from a regular model to a type R? If that is a professionally driven track time, knock more than a second off for the street.

Here's some more tech theroy for you. 250 wheel hp, in a front wheel drive (wheel hop), with a manual trans, street tires, and on normal ashphalt. This formula equates to high 14 second times at best. An all wheel drive Jeep SRT8, has no wheel hop, great weight transfer, and will hook up without boging (if you know you're going to race), in a worst case scenario this would equate to low 14 second-high 13 second times.

It weighs less, is all wheel drive, and I would hands down, guarantee you I could walk all over a new V-6 Eclipse with the slower old style Eclipse.

I owned the old sytle GSX. It was a little monster and faster than the new models. However, nothing compared to my GC.

Since I have owned my srt8 gc, I have raced cobras,(vets none zo6)
benz and bmw's. I have smoked them all in my srt8 jeep. the only thing i have in mine is the mopar CAI.

The srt8 is a ass smoker hands down. It's not a ferrari by any means. BUT IT"S AN SUV THATS SMOKING CARS!!! NICE CARS!!!

Yes, this is the same GC SRT8 that 30 minutes earlier crushed the poor kid in the other Eclipse who ran a 17.2... I ran a 16.8 in my wife's Sebring convertible at the same track under similar conditions. I think the poor kid just couldn't drive a stick, but it made for a nice video...:cool:

On the positive side, this was the first run that my Jeep broke into the 13.7's. Mainly due to a 92 degree day in South Florida which had finally cooled to around 82 at 11.30 pm for this run.

Ya I cant wait till winter when youre Jeeps are running mid to low 13's! There better be more videos up in a few months!
