Does anyone know the status of the Mopar tow package for the SRT-8? Is it available yet and what does it look like?

I figured as much. No replies. It looks like you guys know about as much as I do about the towing package. I know that you don't buy this vehicle for towing, but s_ _t. If they advertise that it can tow 3500 pounds, they ought to give you a freakin way to do it. If you ask the dealer about it, here's their response -

If you do a serch for trailer hitch there are several pictures that shows where one has been custom built, but no factory built. I at least agree that the factory has badly let us down.

I saw a couple of custom ones, they are cool, but why Mopar didnt come with one up todate? this is a truck/SUV, so... get us the dam hitch:D

Problem on this truck is heat. I suspect that is the cause for delay in hitching the truck. It can, and has, been done but you'll find that short of rerouting the exhaust (temporarily or permanently) you will trap a great deal of heat under the truck .

Trap heat? Not likely. The hitch might get a bit warm, but that's about it.

I think the biggest problem is how to make the vehicle look decent when the hitch is removed from the reciever. I would like some kind of cover to clean up the hole in the bumper cover when the hitch is not in use. When Mine comes in, I might just have to make one myself...:D

I am waiting for a response from somebody at SRT Public Relations and Communications. I will let you know when I get a response.

My guess would be money. Think of all of the time and money they would have to put into R&D to come out with something. There are only 3000 something (3300-3400) SRT8s on the road, and how may of those people are going to buy hitches? Not much money to be made there.

I would tend to agree with you, 2007GCSRT8, but cmn1 has already received a response:

hitch (http://www.***********/forums/showthread.php?t=2252&highlight=hitch)

Unless this was inaccurate, it appears that they do intend to come out with one.

I think the heat issue may be under the hood. I have already had temps spike up to 225-230. I know Jeep views this as normal, but I think pulling a trailer might exacerbate this issue. For sure, I am going to get the GSM fan mod.

I think there was also an issue with parking gear strength (AMG transmissions aren't designed for towing) which is why the weight rating is so low, and why the hitch they are coming out with might only be a class I.

i had a dealer tell me it was going to be a fold out hitch. when not in use it could fold back up underneath sight unseen but i think he was bull$hitting.

I am going to wait until the end of September before I do anything. Since it only has to pull up to 3500lbs, I have a plan in mind. I have a friend who has his own machine shop and he says he can build whatever I come up with. If I use my design, I will post pics when it is done.

Been there and done it. Laser temp gauge shows the receiver and ball at 270 degrees. rear diff 255 deg. Exhaust temps were 450+ at the tips. Could have made some nice eggs and toast for breakfast on the flip top in the cargo area.

There is a pocket of "dead air" behind the truck at highway speed and the heat only builds there.

Planning on fabbing twin outlet exhaust tips for the pass side behind the tire (to be swapped in/out for towing) to see how it helps keep heat out of the back of the truck.
