I currently have a 600hp/700tq (490 rwhp/560 rwtq) E55 AMG and am looking to get my wife out of her MDX into a new Silver SRT8 Jeep.
Qs for you all...what can you expect to run bone stock after a break in assuming you can launch? 13.0-13.3?
I see there are exhausts and CAI available...what about headers? What gains can you expect to see at the wheels with these basic bolt-ons?
Any buyer remorse out there? Thanks.

I currently have allergies and you can expect to run 13.5-6's bone stock at sea level. Yes there are numerous CAI, Exhausts, and Headers. Check the Vendors section of this forum. Intakes generally 10-12hp and Exhaust (cat back) 17-20hp. Heads/Cam will get you into high 12's. Turbo/Supercharger/Nitrous will get you low 12's.
No regrets here...:)

Not one second of regret, and just a few minor problems. . .numbers quoted above for add-ons are pretty darn accurate. . . careful though, you might end up passing over that AMG monster you have to the wife once you get behind the wheel of an SRT8!!!

thanks for the info. low/mid 13s is a serious hustle for this big SUV. I ran 12.1@116 stock in the E55 and 11.4@123 now. I would be very happy with a high 12 sec SUV that can smack around M3s, lol.
I hear the employee pricing ends this month? Any truth to that?

I have an E55, and am eagerly awaiting my 07 GC SRT. I test drove it, and fell in love. While the E55 is terrific, I actually had a bigger smile while driving the Jeep. The E55 is stock, and I may do a few mods to the SRT after it is broken in.

Employee pricing was promoted for the month of July and then was renewed for the month of August. It's hard to predict what the program will be for September, it seems unlikely that they will run EP any longer but you never know. If EP ends then I'm sure they will up the ante on rebates or something to help clear out the rest of the '06s, although model selection on most of the SRT's is getting thin. Keep in mind that the EP program is optional at the dealers discretion, many have honored it but a lot have not.
I don't want to get too involved in the current debates over performance numbers for bolt-on mods but the consensus is strongly showing that most of the advertised HP gains are generously exaggerated. Many products have been rushed to market without proper testing. The 6.1L is a very well designed engine, a bored/stroked derivative of the 5.7 Hemi which was meticulously tuned by the SRT engineers enough to grab an extra 100hp. It has only been out a year and a half so the performance aftermarket is still pretty limited.
CAI - Expect 0-5HP. The Hemi uses a speed density system which means that any increase in airflow into the engine goes unseen by the rest of the system - unless the computer is reprogrammed. That is why extensive tests of CAI's on the Hemi engines is showing average results of "0" gain, and in some case even negative gains. The stock system pulls outside air from the grille, some CAI's are designed as such to pull in hot engine compartment air. There are also debates about how much extra dirt is allowed into the engine by some of the CAI filters. Buy a CAI if you like the "sound" but not for HP.
Cat back - Shop carefully, some systems introduce excessive drone and some are too loud at normal driving speeds (the latter of which some people like of course). The just-introduced Mopar system is probably going to be one of the most popular. It was engineered by Corsa under the strict supervision of the SRT engineers and is a couple db quiter in the cabin but comes to life when you jump on it.
Heads - On their own may prove to have disappointing results. There is one customer over on the "Blue" forum that spent a couple grand on a set and ended up losing power. More experimenting/testing needs to be done in this area IMO and like other mods positive results may be difficult to achieve until our computers are unlocked.
For a great read on the 5.7 Hemi engine check out this article: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0403phr_chrysler_hemi_57_liter_345ci_engine_review/index.html It goes into great detail about how well the Hemi engine was designed and about all of its features. For a list of the additional enhancements for the 6.1L visit http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_srt8_specs.htm
If you really want to unleash the power of the 6.1 there is always this 426ci/7.0 Liter stroker option (560HP/600lbs torque):

awesome write up, thank you very much for all the info...how much does that stroker engine run? $$$.

I sold my E55 and moved into the SRT8 GC. It is my 4th Jeep GC (3rd V8) and this is the most fun I've had with a new car since my new '67 Firebird 400 convertible (red - 4 speed - hood tach!) back at the start of the "musclecar era". Well NOW IS the REAL musclecar era, and the SuperJeep is one of the stars.
