: 2 Problems???
Dr.Steve 08-22-2006, 08:11 AM I got my black 7/24 and have about 1300mi on it already, couldn't be happier and love my truck. . . Except:
1) my truck did not come with the black plastic headlight covers that can be seen on page 335 of our manual, and when I brought it to my service manager's attention he ran some BS on me, saying some parts get d/c'd while the car is on the line and he'd have to check to see if my particular truck was supposed to have them, does this make sense to anyone???
2) several times since I picked up the truck, the auto up/down feature on the front windows has seemed screwy, I push the up click and the window goes up a bit, then straight down, it had only happened with the driver's side, but happened this AM with the passenger, any one else having window issues???
thanks in advance for your input guys, this board has been a really great source of info (and aftermarket stuff!) already
p.s.- got pulled over for the first time in the jeep last week, cop said he had been following me and lost me on the highway, didn't get a tkt though, nice to work for the sheriff's dep't!
MrHemi 08-22-2006, 08:22 AM Hey Steve! Not sure about #2 - that hasn't happened to me. On #1 though - I had the same issue. I asked the dealer and the parts guy - who both told me there's a new bulletin out stating the headlight covers are not to be included with the Jeep anymore. I actually saw the DC memo (parts guy printed it off) stating that.
I then went out to their lot and popped the hoods on every one of their GCs - and sure enough... none of them had the covers!!
I then asked the parts guy "how much for the headlight covers??". Got both sent to me via FedEx for twenty bucks.
candyman 08-22-2006, 08:34 AM Yes, I had the same problem with my passengers window. Only did it one time so far, and seemed to have corrected itself after playing around with the window switch a few times.

The owners manual said something like hold up on the auto-up button for a few seconds, or something like that, to reset the auto-up feature. I can't remember exactly, but look it up in the manual...
slickrich555 08-22-2006, 08:46 AM well i deff got the headlight covers...dont know why you guys didnt get it, you should had made jeep pay for them because they were supose to come with them....but i deff have the same problem with the passenger window... it happens when i press both window to automatically go up at the same time and then press the back windows to go up, while i am doin that the front two windows would go up, but the passengers window would go up then aotomactically go back down alittle by its self... whats goin on with that???? you guys try to see if it happens to you....:(
Dr.Steve 08-22-2006, 08:55 AM thanks for the replies fellas, appreciate the info much on the headlight covers MrHemi, will have to talk to my dealer about ordering the covers. . . as far as the window situation, anyone have a link/contact with the guys at DCX who might be able to shed some light on this situation for us?????
barho 08-22-2006, 09:35 AM After a certain date (not sure what it was) headlight covers were no longer included during production at the factory.
anyone have a pic of these head light covers? don't have the manual in front of me.

radduc 08-22-2006, 11:46 AM What do they do??I don't think I have them either.
BahnBlastR 08-22-2006, 01:26 PM I have had #2 happen a few times with the driver's window. I can't ever get it to repeat though, so haven't bothered to report it. It seems to have corrected itself though.

Good question. From what I can gather...Just mo...they give the area a more finished appearance straight across from fender to fender, and may help keep some of the dirt, rain etc., off the connecting plugs on back of headlamps.
MNBob 08-22-2006, 01:43 PM There just a decorative cover. I like having them as I think it completes the grille top area, but it is just a matter preference. They easily snap in and out so removing them to do other work is not a problem.
You can still order them and the part numbers are in the link in the previous response.
ResumeSpeed 08-22-2006, 04:43 PM The engine bay sure looks a lot nicer with them on there, well worth having them IMO.
Black_SRT8 08-22-2006, 05:18 PM I played with my windows during lunch - no problems.
DRIHEAT 08-22-2006, 06:25 PM I just went to my dealer and ordered the HL covers... $15 w/tax for the pair. I show the Beast on the 3rd Sat. of the month so I need to have the "finished " look under the hood.:D
Dr.Steve 08-22-2006, 06:38 PM well done driheat, I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow to do the same. . . no window problems on the way home from work, tried the reset by holding the button up 2s as webdiligence suggested, will let you guys know if the window gremlin returns!
JeepSRT 08-22-2006, 06:41 PM I have had the window problem twice also, just an glitch I think.
Guero 08-22-2006, 06:47 PM I had my window do it once as well. I have a friend with a Charger SRT-8, and his did it a lot. If I remember right, there is a TSB for it, or some type of notification for the dealers. Who knows, maybe it applies to our Jeeps as well. It won't hurt to ask your dealer.
BahnBlastR 08-22-2006, 10:38 PM If memory serves correctly, it seems to me that the window thing happens when I have the stereo volumn up. I thought the bass reflex from the door speaker may have "confused" the window mechanism.....just a thought.
Str8Srt8 08-22-2006, 11:10 PM What do they do??I don't think I have them either.
You remove them to get access to the headlight fluid resevoir. I just checked my headlights, and good thing, they're empty!
Dr.Steve 08-23-2006, 06:53 AM well, the window gremlin has returned, the re-set feature didn't seem to correct the problem, went to auto up when I got on the highway this AM and the window went up maybe 2 in then went down half way, guess I'll have to bring her in : (
MNBob 08-23-2006, 08:57 AM I removed the covers to put in the Silverstar bulbs (a great improvement), but now am kicking myself as I could have checked the headlight fluid at the same time!
Dr.Steve 10-11-2006, 12:56 PM UPDATE:
I was at my dealer 2 weeks ago for my first service and oil change, and wouldn't ya know it, the damn window never flinched for them, but of course it did it again on the way home, I got the standard answer that if it doesn't happen for them they can't diagnose it. . . crap! . . . guess I'll have to keep trying. . . also, the paint is peeling severely off my front lower fascia (like I know many of you are experiencing), they are setting up an appt to have it re-painted no charge. . . the saga continues. . . P.S. - the guy gave me the silly headlight covers!

That kinda stuff always happens to me. I take the vehicle in and it doesn't do the weird crap that I brought it in for. You try to replicate the problem for the service guys and it just won't happen, and then you pull out of the lot and the damn thing comes back to haunt you. It's happened to me many times over. Very annoying. JMTC.
Dr.Steve 10-11-2006, 01:42 PM I share in your frustration my friend, guess for now I just have to live with the window gremlins

I hope you checked the blinker fluid?:D
I also am missing the head light covers. No window problems yet. I do have paint issues, but it seems that it will be a pain getting anything done about it(it has to be aprooved by Chrysler). Does anyone know if having the headlight covers increases HP?
BahnBlastR 10-12-2006, 06:39 AM No headlight covers!! These account for over 40 RWHP!! Better get them on quick! And don't forget to check that blinker fluid while you're in there!!
