Has anyone fabbed up their own tow hitch or know of any companies making them for the SRT8? If you have bought one or made your own could you post pics of it?

Kramsay and TXBLU are the first that come to mind.

I custom fabbed one up for my truck way back in the day. I was actually probably one of the first people to ever have a hitch installed on a SRT8. And it works phenomenal. Since then Curt has designed one that is kinda similar to my set up. But in no way as strong or well built. I will see if I can gets some pictures posted for you.

Its funny seeing people react when they find out I have a hitch for mine.

I'm a newbie to the site, got just 400 miles on the GC and am lovin' every minute of it. Like you, I see no reason why the same rig with a stronger motor and brakes than a standard GC can't do some towing duty. Thanks to all who have posted such great info up here, its going to be a long and fun ride.

I spent a couple of hours on my back this weekend looking at the underside for strengths and weaknesses and have designed a hitch that will be completely bolt-up, requires no welding or drilling of big holes, and puts the receiver under the pipes about an inch back from the lower lip of the beloved (and untouched twins) to make it less noticable. I've seen some good designs on here but the best designs are typically the ones that are iterated so forgive me folks if I borrow some of you good ideas and hopefully take it to the next level. (Think of the first Viper as compared to today's)

I'm a structural engineer and am going to attempt to design this for 5000# load with an impact factor of 2x's gravity. (She pulls hard but the impact factor is really for a collision stop, beyond that I think the Uni-frame will give up the ghost) I need to do some stress calcs and am curious if any SAE types out there that can tell me if I'm off base on the impact factor for hitch design. Because of the eccentricities of going below the pipes, I may not be able to design a reasonable piece for that kind of load but my goal is to pull my 3500# boat so I'll go at least that far. I'm not going to try to do a stress analysis on the back end of the Jeep but I will on the hitch components and connections to provide adequate strength and keep it as light as possible.

Hotscott7, I am curious at to what you came up with as I certainly don't have a corner on the brains. Looking forward to your pics.

Stay tuned. It may be a couple of weeks before I can post any graphics but if there is a positive response, we'll see where it goes. Maybe the feedback will generate even better ideas for the benefit of all.

The park pin isnt very strong..dont park on a hill with extra weight (trailer)..
