Not good!! I was on the freeway two weeks ago and did not realize that I was driving in third gear almost redlining my baby for about 10 minutes!!(DONT ASK! windows were down and stereo was up doing 75.. I didnt hear the rpms)when I did the temp gauge was at the 245 red line.. OH SH*T. The check gauges was on my display. I put it into drive and it started to cool down.
It has been two weeks and my temp seemed to be running hi around the 215 mark. With a 180 stat that was way to hi.
Then today I was on the freeway and decided to drop it into 3rd and stepped on it to get into the fast lane. I realized that my temp shot up to the 245 line again and my check gauges came back up on the display. As soon as a put it back into 5th gear it cooled down.
Is my stat fried and should I replace it? Or is it something more serious. My coolant level is good. Any help would be great

Have you had any coolant leaking? Any abnormal odor during/after the high temp? Did you ever reach 245 w/the stock stat? What was the outside temp?

IMO, I'd change the stat & coolant, it's cheap. I guess it's good we have a rev limiter.

Everything was fine up until the point I drove it in 3rd gear. After that event temp seemed to be high. In the display the temp was in the 250-260 range driving around town. not sure if that is normal with a 180 stat. Today temps in Socal were in the low 60's. Just isnt normal.
Bad day today... I got temp and tire problems.
