: Jeep SRT8 is saving me money
OldSchool 08-18-2006, 09:44 AM Hey all,
I'm a fairly new owner and have to share something that dawned on me this morning on the way to work.
Before getting my Jeep, I drove a Modded 97 Cobra Convertible; it's pretty fast and fun to drive. However, on the way to work 4 out of 5 days a week, I would always stop by Starbucks or Pete's Coffee. Simply put, I needed the Caffeine to wake up.
Since I got the Jeep about a month ago, I haven't gone to Starbuck's or Pete's in the morning ... not once. This is easily saving me 4-15 bucks a day (depending if I treat other co-workers or get some food).
I'm literally wide awake as I leave my driveway; always looking forward to just mashing the pedal at the 6 stop signs, 6 stoplights and a freeway entrance each morning.
A WOT launch is like a morning sip of Coffee! How many sips do you take in the morning?

Another success story... :)
El Calor 08-18-2006, 12:50 PM That is awesome man! I love hearing these stories!! :)
split2112 08-18-2006, 01:09 PM you dont have to eat breakfast either....you can just gobble up some slower cars off the line!
NateO 08-18-2006, 02:09 PM I had a Mustang GT for breakfast! :D
Actually, I didn't, driving slow on a flat tire... Speaking of which, I don't know if I'm saving money, I just dropped $514 on one new rear tire! And the guy at Goodyear said these tires will be cooked around 15,000 miles! Beware the road trash!!

Something is wrong with this pic. Rear tire as an example from TireRack is $308. Around here, retail about $325-$340 exclusive of mount and balance. I'd be having a friendly chat with whatever goodyear dealer you dealt with. Also cooked at 15,000 my butt. I have right at 17,000 on mine now and have 40 to 45% tread left. Wear is perfect, run 34 lbs. cold. Drive it semi-hard. No tire complaints or problems at all. Sorry to hear of your problem.
NateO 08-18-2006, 03:15 PM Maybe I'll look around, here's one online MSRP:
http://www.geminicarcare.com/gemini/tire/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Eagle+RS-A+EMT&mrktarea=Performance
285/40R20 104W VSB 9.5 - 11.0 10.00 11.4 29.0 10.0 1,984 @ 44 $483.95
The EMT Eagles are muchos more denero than the non-EMT variety... The dealer happened to say the same thing about mileage on the tire, he said 20,000 if you baby it, and 15,000 if you drive like I do. :D
Hopefully they're wrong... Thanks for the consolation though. :)
Black_SRT8 08-18-2006, 04:46 PM No more mundane commutes to work, thanks to the DCX SRT guys!
lincoln 08-18-2006, 06:16 PM The $50K I saved by buying this instead of the Cayenne can sure buy alot of tires :)
JeepSRT 08-19-2006, 09:25 AM I just dropped $514 on one new rear tire!
$514? When I got the road hazard warranty at Discount Tire, the guy said the rears were $380 a piece. You might want to call Discount and ask about a price then go back to Goodyear and try to get some money back.
NateO 08-19-2006, 03:19 PM I need to go through my paper work, it seems I might have picked up the road hazzard warranty, myself! I hope so... :)
DRIHEAT 08-19-2006, 04:48 PM I didn't know Nordstrom was selling GOODYEAR RUN-FLATS!!
NateO 09-02-2006, 10:33 AM Odd, I did pick up the optional road hazzard warranty, so I will be getting some cash back... Must've felt like spending a bunch of cash when I bought this thing!!
The math is curious in this one! Stupid for buying the warranty, unlucky to have to use it, and it all works out?
-1 * -1 = 1
So, after the boys at Goodyear got the wheel back on, the tech. comes up and says "I can't get this last lug to torque, and it's making me nervous, you might want to take it the dealer." So I says "Erm, you are making me nervous! I will go ahead and take it to the dealer."
I take it the dealer, and these guys are cool, topped off my liquids and cleaned this up, no charge. The Manager's joking about tires flying off at 150 mph... I've heard some bad stories about dealers, too bad, 'cause some of these guys are pretty good guys! :D
In any event, the shop guy says "Weird, that lug torqued right up, no stripping, no nothing. And even odder, they did not torque a single lug on that wheel! Your truck must have scared the hell out of them!"
One last 'scary story':
Went to leave my Sis and Bro-n-law's house, and Bro-n-law is standing right in front of the truck, holding his youngest, non declawed kitten, little Johnny. When I fired up the beast, you should have seen this cat jump!! He sunk all four into Bro-in-law's chest and launched! Apparently Bro-n-laws's shirt and chest are fubar!!
I guess, in all fairness, it does sound like 20-100 pissed-off Rottweilers when you fire it up! Morale of the story, keep domesticated animals and small children out of ear-shot when you fire these things up! :D ;)
barho 09-02-2006, 06:17 PM Nate and everyone else.....WHY ARE YOU SPENDING MONEY ON NEW TIRES AND BUYING "OPTIONAL" ROAD HAZARD COVERAGE?????
Our tires are covered by Goodyear for the first year after purchase including road hazards. If they cannot be fixed, they replace the tire for free. You just have to go to a Goodyear that is corporate owned. I had a screw in my tire and needed it replaced. Took it to the corporate owned Goodyear, and even they thought it wasn't covered, so I showed them the EMT pamphlet that comes with the vehicle paparerwork and sure enough they were wrong and my tire was fixed FOR FREE.
Nate - I suggest you get you OPTIONAL road hazard warrenty money back as well as the money to replace your tire. ;)
