: 06 or 07...Can't Decide!!!!!!!!
El Calor 08-16-2006, 09:24 AM I've been waiting 2 months on my 07 order and I still don't have a VIN! Some how I am now 3rd on the list at my small local dealer, so it could be November before the damn thing comes in
In the mean time I have found an 06 with EP pricing...should I get it today or do you guys think the 07 is worth the wait? I locked my 07 in at $43,500 with everything, but the rear entertainment.
What do you guys think? HELP!!!!!!!!!!1
zen garage 08-16-2006, 09:56 AM get the 06, and drive it like you stole it.
srt-8-inferno 08-16-2006, 10:13 AM  I'ld take the 06. I picking mine up tomorrow, w/o the gps/nav and the rear entertainment and got a price of $37,745. Kinda feel like I'm stealing it from them.....
El Calor 08-16-2006, 10:17 AM Thanks for your help guys! I think I'm going to try and make this 06 deal work!
shodanusmc 08-16-2006, 11:05 AM Get the 07...more equipemnt is standard, several nice changes. The 06 will soon be a year old,and you will take the depreciation hit. Sounds like you got a decent price on the 07. I got mine for 1k over invoice....I have the VIN, but the ship date has changed from 8/10 to 8/15 to 6/24...but according to Milous, the should not ship until Sept.

You will not take a depreciation hit if you get EP. I just picked up an '06 for EP and would do it again. The changes are minor, in my opinion. It is your money so do what you feel it best. :)
El Calor 08-16-2006, 11:24 AM They thing is that there are TWO Jeep SRT8's orders infront of me and if the earliest those are going to ship are going to be 9/24 then that means mie would be closer to like 10/14! That sucks! Especially because it starts snowing then :(
barho 08-16-2006, 11:30 AM They thing is that there are TWO Jeep SRT8's orders infront of me and if the earliest those are going to ship are going to be 9/24 then that means mie would be closer to like 10/14! That sucks! Especially because it starts snowing then :(
Get the 06.
I keep hearing people talk about depreciation....c'mon...they are being offered at EP, which equates to $5K off sticker. I wouldn't worry about depreciation. Those that wait and buy the 07 are the one's that will be taking the bigger hit, that's for sure
2007GCSRT8 08-16-2006, 12:25 PM I guess it all depends on how long you want to hang on to the vehicle. If it is long term, I would go with the 06. If it is under 3 years I would go with the 07. Just my opinion, everyone has their own view.
radduc 08-16-2006, 12:35 PM I think it all depends on your financial situation. If you have the money and don't mind paying up for the 07 I think that is the move.I would love to have an 07 now,They have alot of new upgrades.
El Calor 08-16-2006, 02:12 PM I just don't want that to be that guy that waits and waits and then get's the order bumbed to an 08!
shodanusmc 08-16-2006, 03:07 PM Get the 06.

Iam actually quite surprised that there are any 06's available to buy at EP....
Your statement on the Price difference is not totally factual, especially is you can get the 07 for a grand over Invoice...not at MSRP or ADP+MSRP.
But yes, the wait is a killer, and the price for the 06 is good....but it will still depreciate.....and there are several nice changes.
kman999 08-16-2006, 03:24 PM for me in Canada, the 06 GC SRT8 is not under the EP program...which really sucks. I ordered an 07 end of June and was given an mid-Oct delivery date. Will get an update from the dealer next week.
I had the chance of picking up an 06 back in mid-July, but decided to wait. The main reason for me waiting for the 07 is that I hope Jeep/DC fixes the little nagging issues seen in this forum, like peeling paint under fog light, windshield whistling, tranny TSB, etc...
I came close to picking up the 06, but it had the NAV/DVD entertainment options which I didn't want to pay for.
So guys, when I hear back from the dealer on Monday on my 07 order status, should he be able to give me the VIN? Wonder if delivery dates differ between US and Canada. Any comments?
Mommy Wagon 08-16-2006, 05:23 PM My original delivery date was May 26 by luck that was in the begining of April when I put down my deposit, then moved to June 19, then June 30, then July 21, finally it was FOR SURE August 12th ready for pickup. It's now August 16th and I am still waiting! It's supposed to be in town, and
they are waiting on the delivery company. I do have a VIN, and I have it insured now, as I had expected it last weekend! ........... I wanted black, and it had to have NAV, the infotainmet DVD system, and whatever else I could get. I sure hope it gets here this weekend, the Jeep is for my wife, and she's killin' me!
Krush 08-16-2006, 06:11 PM I'm not sure, but I think you could add the new 07 options to an 06 for a lot less than 5 or 6 grand. Hell, you could get the whole interior covered in leather for less than that. Just my 2c.

kman999 08-16-2006, 09:06 PM M wagon,
are you talking about an 07? or 06? 07 production according to wkjeeps is Sept 2006.

I was wondering the same thing, and if it's an 06, then it's time for you to cancel your deal and head to another dealer ;)
Krush 08-17-2006, 06:24 PM Production starts September 1, 2006
6.1L Hemi, WA580 AutoStick transmission (same drivetrain as 2006)
That's truly what matters, and there are no changes
Upgraded interior appearance including soft-touch instrument panel with premium carbon fiber leather instrument panel hood, control knobs with chrome rings, premium shifter bezel, color-keyed cup holder, and Boston Acoustics badges (when properly equipped)
You can add all that to an 06. How much do you think "control knobs with chrome rings" really cost?
Active turn signals (“ 3-blink lane change”)
I haven't seen any posts of people having problems with the current turn signal operation.
Audio - Next gen premium Kicker surround audio system w/subwoofer (late availability)
Plenty of great aftermarket systems available for a lot less than 5 grand.
Fuel tank size increased from 20.5 to 21.1
Do you know what car your buying? .6 gallons will get you like 2 city blocks. :D
ParkView Rear camera system option (packaged with REC nav radio)
Again, you can add this to the 06 if you really want it.
Remote Start (included with SRT Option Package I)
Already available on the 06, just go see your dealer.
Side air bags (standard on all models)
Just about every 06 produced has the side air bag option.
Tip Start (prevents double starts)
If you're having problems with double starts, you should really go buy a Malibu not a GC SRT.
New color: Steel Blue Metallic Clear Coat
New color: Red Rock Crystal Pearl Coat (Replaces Inferno Red)
If one of these colors is worth that much to you, then this would be a real reason to wait for an 07.
ALso, hopefully all of the previous problems will be resolved........
If they haven't been resolved for the 06's, why would you think they've been resolved for the 07?
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing to buy an 07, it's a good thing, but IMHO the upgrade list is not worth the 4 to 6 grand difference in buying an 06 now at EP.
Steel Blue 07 08-17-2006, 07:34 PM Wicked,
I'd wait, and DEFINITELY find another dealer. If you can't get in an '07 a month after they start hitting, I'll be VERY surprised. Under sticker too. Demand will slow up quite a bit after the guys that have been wiating for an '07 get one. It won't keep rolling at the pace the 06's were, obviously, because it's not the first year of production, and fuel prices still on the rise, market satisfaction/saturation of an extreme niche market, etc. And frankly, most everyone who wanted one has one at this point. Some dealerships have 2-3 06's in inventory, in fact, as of three weeks ago, one had SIX!!!! But for me, it came down to color. I wanted to be different, saw the Steel Blue, loved it, then they delayed it, delayed it again, then bumped it to '07. I don't like how few color options there are, but I guess it's progress (tho I dont think changing Inferno was wise)... Still leaves a hell of alot to be desired in that dept tho.
Also, yes, the changes, albeit subtle, are still nice. You get the '06 now, you may regret it in a month. Nice to see another fellow C5Z06 owner on board, and good luck with your decision.
Obviously, you could also add all the changes to an '06. But I'd rather wait another month, and get all the goodies fact. installed, right from the get-go. That way I wouldnt have to pay out-of-pocket just to keep with the factory jones's. Pretty silly if you ask me. That and downtime for your new baby. I can't imagine!
WebDiligence 08-17-2006, 08:53 PM Definately no changes that make a difference to me. Thanks for posting though.
sacarmic 08-18-2006, 08:06 AM I can't say how, but I've heard the kicker system, and I was not impressed at all. It is name and name alone. I think it was a step down, not up.
El Calor 08-18-2006, 12:43 PM Ok, here is the scoop!
I couldn't make a deal on the 06...they didn't want to give me the full EP price, they only wanted to go half way! So, 07 here I come!
I know I would kick myself once the 07 actually hits because I love having the newest thing on the street!
I think the reason that we aren't seeing 07 GC SRT8's right now is because they are fixing the problems that we have expressed on this forum. Why would they be stuck in quality control and delayed shipping if they hadn't changed something?
kman999 08-18-2006, 03:19 PM wicked,
I share your optimism as well waiting for my 07 ride...
ktek01 08-20-2006, 07:00 AM Again, you can add this to the 06 if you really want it.
Already available on the 06, just go see your dealer.
You can add both, but the Mopar add ons are not nearly as nice as the factory installed. The Mopar camera puts a screen up on your dash that looks like a depth finder sitting up there. The Mopar remote start is an aftermarket kit with Jeep badges, not the factory integrated system built right into the key fob.
jaybruce 08-20-2006, 10:38 AM The Mopar camera puts a screen up on your dash that looks like a depth finder sitting up there.
Have you seen this, or have any links as to how this is going to look? I thought it would just overide the gps display when needed?

There are pictures of it on the XK site. The factory setup overides the GPS display, the Mopar add on doesnt. Several add ons you can get from Mopar but few are anything like the factory option. U-connect, remote start, Park Assist, all look much different then the factory installed options, and cost a lot more as an add on.

So,
Can i do it for my 06 as factory parts? is it possible to buy them as a spare parts from the dealer and install them?
Can someone advise? I like the rear camera and remote start.
Thanks

For enough money, anything can be done. The parts are easy enough to get, but it would be expensive buying them piece by piece. The hardest part would be researching and making up the correct harness add ons and any re-programming that may be needed. For an idea of whats involved take a look at the LX forums and search for U-connect. Someone there figured it all out for that, but it isnt easy and not cheap.
BTW Got to check out an 07 Overland with the remote start and back up camera yesterday, very nice set up, they both come standard on the Overland. I think the only option for it was the rear video, which is why it costs even more than a GC SRT8.
Beltfed 08-20-2006, 07:51 PM BTW Got to check out an 07 Overland
Did you check out the dash (material wise)? Anything worth noting if so?
FeelTheSteel 08-20-2006, 08:22 PM I'm pretty sure you can take your Jeep to tvandnav2go and get the rear camera integrated into the factory head unit...
ktek01 08-20-2006, 09:51 PM Did you check out the dash (material wise)? Anything worth noting if so?
Nothing that jumped out at me just yet. New power window/door lock/mirror switches. Those actually started showing up on late build 06s. The base models get narrow black strips on the doors now instedad of the wide ones. Look just like the chrome only in black. Tip start mode is new, just bump the key to crank and let go, it will crank for up to 10 seconds on its own or until it starts running. They made some change to the FCM or CCN, now shows the message in the EVIC when the IOD fuse isnt plugged in before prep. Only had 07s for about a week or two so I have not had much of a chance to really compare them.
ktek01 08-20-2006, 09:52 PM I'm pretty sure you can take your Jeep to tvandnav2go and get the rear camera integrated into the factory head unit...
You can, and could probably use the Jeep camera, but of course that mod will void the warranty on your radio.
Beltfed 08-20-2006, 10:31 PM Only had 07s for about a week or two so I have not had much of a chance to really compare them.
Yeah, I examined a few 07 Laredo's (exterior) last week. Besides the thin black door strips as you mentioned, I compared the 06 vs. 07 tail lights.
The 07 tail light is very similar to the 06, the red portion on the 07 is open with 1 bulb. Where the 06 is sectioned off with 2 bulbs.

If you reread the message, I have heard that system. I can't go into details how and where I did without creating some issues. By step down, I just didn't think it sounded that great, especially for a premium price. Imho, I don't think it is anything worth waiting on.

There is not a system for you to have heard...the only system that was prototyped is sitting in an office in Detroit (not installed in a vehicle) and the review of the managment of DCX is that it is a huge improvment to the stock 6 speaker system...
HolyToledoSRT8 08-22-2006, 02:08 PM I ordered my '06 the first day the dealer here could take an order for it and waited 6 excruciating months. But it was well worth it. I'd go for the '06 and have fun.
By the way I ordered mine for $44,600 with every option available EXCEPT the DVD system. It showed up with the DVD which the dealer threw it when I told them to take it out.

Yes, as I understand, thats the only delay. Yesterday they got a batch in for the Steel Blue and Black, and will go from there is they are problem free. Maybe Milous can offer his thoughts and what he is aware of.

El Calor 08-22-2006, 04:04 PM Oh...new up date! I called my dealer to have the back-up camera option added since it is an intergrated piece now and it was already on there! Not only that, but so is the rear entertainment!! So, i'm getting an 07 with EVERY option (except the engine black heater) for $43,500.00!!
Super stoked now! So, glad I didn't buy that 06 :)

I don't really understand what you're saying.
Navigation and the Rear Camera are grouped together (AMN)
Rear Entertainment is separate (AEK)
If that does include everything that's a good deal......I'm at $43,300 (everything but Entertainment).
My fault actually, could have got an additional 5 bills off somewhere else (dealer is far though).
When the rig comes in, I'll try to get them to go $43k even.
Black_SRT8 08-22-2006, 05:30 PM Definately no changes that make a difference to me.
I concur...

But, just so you know, I got an 06 with all the options you stated (except rear camera) for the EP of $41,008, so I wouldn't be super stoked. But then again, to each his own, and look forward to hearing about your daily grin from ear to ear once you take qownership :D

Mine was supposed to ship 8/10, then 8/14. Then there was a hold on all 07's for the fascia's....now mine is in the process of being framed...but I was told it would ship on 9/1...NO WAY if it is still being framed. I would guess mine will ship around 9-10 to 9-14...but with another delay, all bets are off.
I just hope all of the nagging little problems and TSB's are incorporated and resolved.

Dream on. The C6s are still having roof separation problems after year #1, #2 & #3. If you want perfect from car companies, try another planet. Even holy Toyletta is having problems. A vehicle is 10,000 parts flying in loose formation.

Where did I say perfect? I simply said I hope the fixes are incorporated...I know that no car comes 100%....
You may want to keep your head covered when in the sun, or drive up to Flagstaff and cool off.
DRIHEAT 09-01-2006, 10:17 AM No, I just get a kick out of people who think they dodged a bullet because they bought the next year's model. Often they are very dissappoinied. In the Z06 forum the smugness of one year's model owners vs the last year's owners was just very funny to watch.
Everyone pays (with rare exceptions) for their own car and wants to defend their decision of when and what to buy. I've purchased 38 new vehicles over the years and have learned to expect almost anything going wrong. The only series of cars that I bought that I never had warranty claims with were several Honda Civic Si models of the late 80s and early 90s that my wife drove. On the other side: I had a new 911S Targa seize it's motor, a Z06 with the dreaded steering column lock-up (NOT while it was moving in my case), lots of Mercedes problems, and even some problems with my beloved Harley FXRS (the clutch could NOT be disengaged while I was going though downtown Seattle traffic - THAT was a fun ride). I now have realistic expectations of domestic car makers in particular, and all car makers in general, of what I'll get when I buy a new vehicle.
BTW, it's only 104º in the Scottsdale area, a "cold wave" in the AZ summer. But thanks for your concern.

I know all about the Phoenix area heat, I have a place in Anthem that I hang out in the winter.
Sounds like you must get all the bad ones. My FLHTC and wife's FLSTF, trouble free. 05 E55 AMG, not one problem. Wifes 06 X5 4.4, all fuel injectors and Fuel Pump replaced within the first month, since then, not one problem. 69 Plymouth Roadrunner 440 six pack, garage car, not one problem. I also have owned many cars. More than 38 over my life time. Since I do not own a C06, or a Porsche, I am not concerned about their problems. My point was, Jeep is aware of what the common problems with the 06 model are, issued TSB's, and HOPEFULLY, those fixes are included in the 07 model. That was the intent of my original message. HAGD
DRIHEAT 09-01-2006, 01:33 PM If I had your overall luck with cars I would buy a PowerBall® ticket.
...but serously, I still love new vehicles of any kind and have fairly good luck. The Harley had the clutch prob the 2nd week of the 20+ years I owned it. The Porsche was one of 4 I had, the others were fine. The Z06 was still one of my favorites despite the constatnt "police escort" that car seemed to generate. Any mechanical device can have its issues, but all in all; my SRT8 is a winner. I love it so much I won't let my wife drive it.
shodanusmc 09-01-2006, 01:46 PM <<If I had your overall luck with cars I would buy a PowerBall® ticket.>>
I have never had a winning ticket...Lucky if I get one or two numbers. I had a lot of dogs in the 70's and 80's, basically GM and Ford. Would never buy a Ford again. I have had great luck with the German and Japanese makes. Harley, I have owned the stock since they went Public, and have done quite well with them. I owned a few when they were under AMF...what a POS they made. Their quality has improved dramatically over the past 10 years. Do most of my riding in N. Illinois, and refuse to ride on I-17 when I am in AZ..too many stones, and too many lost Sun City drivers trying to find their way home. I have already let my wife know she is not allowed to drive it. She just looked at me and smiled. After almost 35 years of marriage, I know what that smile really means.
Enjoy the Holiday weekend.
DRIHEAT 09-01-2006, 02:08 PM The same back at you.
I lost my love for riding (MCs) in AZ. I rode for 30+ years in WA & loved it, rain & all. AZ: snowbirds, uncovered gravel trucks, old farts in Buicks, tourists in rental cars. AZ is much more fun in a "cage", + the more HP the better.
The stock: I bought 100 shares when it was @ less than $8/share... with splits now I have 3200. I do love HD.
PorscheSRT8 09-02-2006, 07:12 PM There seem to be a lot of people getting EP on 2006 SRT8s? I checked the Jeep.com site and the SRT8 is explicitly EXCLUDED? How did you get EP? And is it still available?
kman999 09-02-2006, 07:59 PM porschesrt8,
I agree with you. Anyone from canada able to get EP? Sent a mail to DC Canada and they confirmed that the GC SRT8 is excluded. We canucks got the shaft up here. at this point, I don't really care, just waiting for my beast to arrive in a few weeks

The reason that the SRT8 is excluded is that EP concluded on 8/31/06. There is currently NO incentive on 2006 SRT8's. No rebates nor 0% financing.
Currently, Regular-issue GC's get rebate dollars (not as good as EP, as you pay sales tax on the gross), or 0% financing.
Clearly, if you wanted a 2006 GC SRT8, you should have it by now. Perhaps there may be some discounting when the 2007 pipeline starts filling. However, I doubt that will happen.
