Hey

What do you guys think about the dealer installing the Factory Nav Option? The one they've got coming in doesn't have it, but they said they could put it in.

Navigation is imperative. To be honest, this is my first navigation unit; I always thought they were superfluous so I never opted. But now that I have one, I am kicking myself for not having it five years ago.

I rarely use mine, but when I do, it's the easiest I've ever used. It works perfectly and the seamless integration into the vehicle and it's sound system is awesome. I think it's a must.

Same here... this is my first Nav system. I love it - it's very detailed and has up-to-date info on just about any place you could possibly want to go.
I was in an area this past weekend that I haven't been in for over five years... needed to find an ATM. Punched in what I wanted and I was there in less than five minutes (never would've found it without the Nav system).

I don't know why you would get one without this, a nice option.

I don't use it on my everyday drive, but it saved my butt in a remote part of Ontario, Canada where the roads were very poorly signed, and even found my hotel in Michigan's U.P., which I booked while driving there... Good stuff!

I rarely use mine as well (the wife is the only one who can't figure out where she is going ;) ), but I do have to say, it is NOT the easiest to use. Once they come out with the RER unit with the touch screen, then it will be one of the easiest.

My wife has an 03 Acura TSX with the touch screen Nav, and it is by far superior to our REC Nav unit and it's outdated use of a toggle to input addresses.

I had the dealer install the RB1 nav system in my '03 Dodge. Is very easy to do and no problems. Also without the nav the dash looks very plain almost like the base model.

Barho speaks the truth, the jeep is my third nav system and compared to the garmin street pilot and my pioneer double din (both touch screen) it's really crude in every area, but it will do, mine's staying.

Anyone know if the 07 will have a touchscreen nav? I have the "toggle" nav in my 5.7 and agree with most of the comments above. I just wish it had more maps of Manitoba, and the ability to mark a specific spot in a field. That would help for our hunting trips in Canada.

I love my NAV and would never be without one,It's also depends on what they are charging you,If they want like 2 G's or more I would go out and by the TOM TOM nqv unit.Only cost about 600 bucks

Does anyone know when the latest disc was released (Version #?). My damn street is not on the NAV and I've been in the house for 6 years now. It's not in BFE either.

I think it came out late Feb. PN is 05064033AD. Direct from Alpine, 800-421-2284, and I think it was about $175. Only thing I can think of is if you want to pm me with your street address, town, and state, I'll go out and plug it in and see if comes up.....

I am in the same boat as the original author of this thread (thinking of buying one without nav, but dealer says they can install). I have had several nav units in past cars, and won't buy it without one.

My question is... is this really a dealer installable option? Aside from the screen that mounts into the center dash, a head unit for the dvd reader needs to be installed and wiring ran, plus gps antenna, etc.

I want the same exact functionality and quality installation as if it came from the factory. Shold I order, or have the dealer do the installation?

I would think if you get it as a dealer installed option you would be paying much more than factory

The Nav unit is one of the few Mopar add ons that will be identical to the factory installed. Just about everything is built into the radio, only exception is the GPS antenna, which mounts behind the radio out of site. Only other part needed for the install is the bezel, the DVD player is part of the radio behind a trim cover at the bottom of the screen.

I got the REC nav radio from the factory but it doesn't work, all it says is "please proceed to nearest public road" ...but my Jeep doesn't float. :)

Seriously, I don't use the nav system at all so I would consider trading it for someone's non-nav unit plus cash.

The same thing happened to me. My street has been around for ages. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't on there. Somehow I figured out that the NAV unit thought I was located in the city to the north of me. I don't know if it is a zip code thing or what. So...have you tried the cities that surround you and looked for your street on there? Just an idea.

Yeah I have tried everything and the damn thing can't find my address. I called NavTeq and I had the latest version they said and there was nothing they could do for me. So???...

You should just install it yourself, it is beyond easy and all plug n' play. The radio trim bezel pulls off by hand, 4 screws to pull the existing radio, install nav antenna behind radio, install nav radio and new bezel, done. 10 minutes max.

New car upon delivery, I would let the dealer install it so it will be part of the 3/36 warranty. Otherwise I believe it will only fall under a Mopar 12/12 parts only warranty with no coverage for labor. I could be mistaken, but I think that is how it works.

I don't understand why would any of you guy's want to do this at the dealer rather then the factory?

In my case, the car on the lot does not have the Nav installed.
