Does the gas gauge seem to go down very fast! :D

Mine moves in direct proportion to the gas pedal! The more further down the gas pedal goes, the further down the gas guage goes. ;)

My tank is perpetually empty - the payments to Chevron equal the payments to Jeep.

I fool myself by topping off when I get to 3/4 of a tank. I have not paid more than $20 to "fill up". I do this a couple of times a day.

In all seriousness, I have noticed that my gage will drop rapidly from 1/4 to empty with no warning. It freaks me out to see happen. Each time I fill up, it seems like it maxes out at 17.5 gallons. This means the needle is reading empty with 3 or so gallons left. Oddly enough my SRT-4 is the same. It reads empty with approximately 3 gallons left. My 2003 Grand Cherokee didn't work like this. The gage would be very consistant to empty. I am going to get this checked out.

Mine does the exact same thing. My gauge will say, "10 miles till empty," I will fill up, and only 16-18 gallons will go in the tank. I suppose it is better this way considering the opposite.

On my trip back from Phili to Sav I stretched the last leg and ended up with "2 Miles" left on the gasometer. It went to 0 as I hit the gas station. So at least we know that there is gas remaining even when the gas gauge hits "0".

Same here, I usually fill her up at ~1/4 tank, because I don't trust it combined with heavy traffic, i.e., I prefer driving the truck over walking!! ;)

I was within a half-mile of my place last night and the digital dash reading said 37 miles remaining, and when I parked it, it read 34 miles remaining, and I had not punched it! When I jumped on the highway, this morning, it read 40 miles remaining.

So, first mission of the day? Refuel!!

well, riding the needle happens to be one of my bad habits. I had it at "0 miles left" for about 10 minutes as I was station hunting. I found one and fillup took about 18 gallons.

So it seems that we have a 2 gallon reserve which is enough to find a gas station most of the time, with it set to say empty at this point when it indeed is not.

This is why the NAV option is a HUGE selling feature. It shows gas stations! When my wife has my Magnum SRT (still in waiting for her Cherokee SRT), it's guaranteed that when I get it back it's empty!

I swear when I pull up the mpg on the dash, I can here that little nav voice laughing at me. Then again, I drive like a idiot, so I'm getting around 9 mpg. :D

I am on my 5th tank of gas since last Sat! Of course I had 3 tanks to get home from Phili to Sav. I am thinking about getting this tag...:D

When I first got my hands on my Jeep back in January it had just arrived by transport truck and the dealer was nice enough to have shipped it with absolutely no gas. Actually it was my fault, I told them not to touch the truck at all, as I didn't want some jackass giving it swirl marks, so this was the gas from the factory. Anyway by the time I got to a station (driving around with no plates and no insurance ) it was well below empty and I was surprised that it only took 18.7 to fill. If the gauge reading is linear then I'd say that true empty is 1/8th tank below the empty mark.

But don't blame me if you run out of gas!

Be warned, you don't have much time to get gass once the light goes on and it shows 0 on the needle. I ran out of gas thinking when I fill up it only takes 17 or so gallons. For some reason once I ran out I could only get 18.8 gallons in the truck and the gas was spiling over.

Then that means the pickup is well above the bottom of the tank, which is a technique to minimize ingestion of water and sludge. Now we know and knowing is half the battle! (cue G.I. Joe music)
