: On the fence about a 2008 gcsrt8 questions
bigsrtfan 10-28-2007, 07:00 PM I test drove the gcsrt8 for the 3rd time this month, the other two times were really short drives so i wanted to test it out again. Dealership has the exact one black with option 1 and 2 fully loaded. I really like the truck but I've been alittle hesitant since all the quality issues guys have been stating on the 08. I looked around the truck, its seem the tail pipes line up, the trim seems to match up on all doors, hood seems to be bolted down correctly, I'm sure the mygig needs to be updated but didn't check the version. Anything else i should look for??
I did notice their were scratches on the back of the dvd screen and a small hole in the top liner just in front of the dvd player, (only has 2 miles on it)which i'm unsure if this is lack of chrysler's inspection before leaving the plant or improper transport of the truck. With all these small problems arising, is the gcsrt8 really worth it? I know any car from any manufacturer has problems but it seems alot of things are creeping up lately. Sorry for the rant guys just need some feedback.
1BAMFR 10-28-2007, 07:04 PM Jump off the fence and buy it. You need to start thinking about mods now...
toothmechanic 10-28-2007, 07:05 PM So far so good with mine. I have 1850 miles on it so far. I have looked at my vehicle and did not see or find any of the said problems. I have updated MyGig and there are threads on how to do this. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. It is just a very exciting vehicle. Go for it!!!
bigsrtfan 10-28-2007, 07:15 PM Do you guys get a lot of looks and attention in the truck and do people come up to you and ask about the truck?
1BAMFR 10-28-2007, 07:23 PM Do you guys get a lot of looks and attention in the truck and do people come up to you and ask about the truck?
DUDE...You have NO IDEA what kind of attention you get when you cruise around town. Everytime I'm getting gas someone asks me what kind of car it is or how much horse? or can you rev it up? or can you get on it when you leave, or....you just get the people that will stare at you like a hawk. Doesn't matter how old, how young, what there driving, what your doing,.... They will check you out from head to toe.
Buy one and you will find out real quick. When they see you coming all they see is this low, loud obnoxious thing coming at them.
But, If you don't like attention, don't buy one
Jeep Trick 10-28-2007, 07:26 PM Do you guys get a lot of looks and attention in the truck and do people come up to you and ask about the truck?
I hadn't owned it 30min went back to the hotel to check out and bringing my bags out had two guy drooling over it asking all kinds of ????
I think some of the issues that people are having with the jeep is it's there baby. My wife’s 06 Honda Odyssey probably has as many issues but I just don’t care about it unless it's major. Not saying some people don't have major issues but I think (as it is with me) you just pay much more attention
2000 miles on mine and no MAJOR problems
SRTYA 10-28-2007, 07:33 PM I was back and forth like you are now on whether to buy one or not. I had been reading this forum for a while and just wasn’t sure if I wanted to get into something that was sure to be trouble. Ultimately I purchased (a new 07) and I cannot tell you how happy I am with it. As for looks yes people are always gathered around it when I park at shopping centers and getting gas is now a social event. Just buy it you will not regret it.
AHurst 10-28-2007, 07:35 PM Buyer's remorse is always a concern when you buy a new car...I had it big time when I bought a 2007 Infiniti M35 and an 07 Yukon Denali. Ended up selling them both....
Loved the BMW 330 and have loved the SRT8. Some weird MyGig behavior but I will ask the dealer to look at it at the first oil change.
I love it because the styling looks good and makes you smile when you approach it, there are few on the road so you are exclusive, instant power when needed on the road, minimal body roll when cutting curves, and it sounds baddd...
Oakr8er 10-28-2007, 11:15 PM I have an 08, and have less than 1,200 miles on it. After 1,000 it took a major dump, had it towed in yada yada yada. Dealer had it for a MONTH! PArt was on back order. Some Drive Module for shfifting went bad.
Anyway, after all of this, and towards the end I was pissed I don't regret this Jeep. I LOVE it!! (DLX paid my 1st monthly payment free car rental etc.) Anyway, this is my second SRT8 car, I had an 07 SRT8 Charger, but becuase of two little boys, it didn't make sense anymore being a single Dad.
While I lost the Chick magnet and damn that black Charger was, I don't regret it at all. BUY it. Drive the F out of it, and don't look back!
pjramirez 10-28-2007, 11:50 PM Buy it now. You'll instantly love it! I haven't had any problems with my GC SRT8.

BUY IT, mine is on order it will be my 4th SRT and I love them all, I expect little problems with the GCSRT8 but thats to be expected. Don't worry about Chrysler's QC it's no better or worse than any of the others. When you buy it have the Dealer take note of what you find wrong and have them fix it, If you don't like the one your looking at, order another, SIMPLE AS THAT. Enjoy your GCSRT8. The SRTs are fun to drive and own.

I now have 1,000 miles on my 08, no problems so far...
Based on what others say they paid, I paid more (sticker) and usually I'd be very upset, but for this one, I dont give a f@%!, its an insane ride and worth the $$$!
2BADGN 10-29-2007, 08:31 AM Dude, You are killing me.....Just buy it already...Yes there are issues with these but there are issues with every vehicle....However, it definately draws attention no matter where you go and the power this thing produces is priceless.
jasosta 10-29-2007, 08:44 AM Had it less than 2 weeks and no problems. Already had to wipe 3 different neighbors drool off the hood. Only got gas once so far but the guy working there came out to check it out and ask questions.
Toothmonger 10-29-2007, 08:49 AM Defintely buy it. I've had mine 2 months or so and have only seen 1 red one where I live. You get alot of exclusivity for the money.
cudadave 10-29-2007, 04:14 PM Just do it! I don't care about the quality of this thing, I didn't buy it for the build quality. I'm not talking about reliability, I definitly need that :D.
This is the most fun car I've ever had. It looks sick, sounds awesome, brakes and handles unbelievable. I love it the fact that it gets major attention everywhere I go ( especially at the track), and shocks the crap out of people in the 0-60 sprint.
My wife even asks to take it for rides, I let her so I can hear how it sounds and see how it looks driving.
Sorry to ramble on, but I'm in love,
Dave
dentin11 10-30-2007, 12:38 AM Just picked mine up today! Tailpipes line up! All door handles and trim the same! So far no complaints although I ran the mygig firmware update to the new version.
DJ Red Barron 10-30-2007, 07:44 PM I read as much as I could about these rigs before I got mine. But to be honest, I had my mind made up a looong time ago. The issues I have read about people having didn't deter me in the least. I love my GC. The ONLY way I will part with it will be for the 6.4 version if I like it (which I'm sure I will).
Does it have some quirks? Yes. The windows do this weird thing where they go up then down then stop when using the auto-up feature. But from what I can tell, there is a quick fix for it. I just haven't had the time to get it done yet.
Also, the rear end has a bit of a whine to it, but nothing that concerns me all that much. I drove F-Bodies for several years. Now those things have a rear end whine that'll drive ya nuts.
I'm sure there are some system updates for MyGig that are available for mine. But I have had no issues at all with MyGig so far. And there aren't any other issues I can think of I have had overall. It has 3500 miles on the clock thus far.
I drive this rig hard as hell. The average MPG stays pretty low because it's too much fun not to play with it. And I get a TON of attention with it. Everybody wants to know what it is, how much power, where they can get one, etc. I've had some flashy vehicles in my day, but this is the first one people actually literally stop traffic to flag me down and ask me questions about. And the people being held up in traffic don't seem to mind because they are gawking at it as well.
So IMO, if you're on the fence, just jump. Take the plunge and get ready for a hell of a ride! :D
FDNY-L107 10-30-2007, 08:02 PM This is encouraging - as I am on the fence as well. Just coming off a major accident (totaled) with my 2006 GTO after spending $16,500 in modifications....yes, the GTO was track ready.
But thankfully, no injuries and I came out without a cut. Seatbelt saved my life.
So now - with a new one month and a 4 year old, and something my wife can drive - this Jeep SRT8 looks to fit everyones requirements! This, coming from a loyal GM customer. But GM needs to get off it as_ and I can't wait (nor really like the looks), of the new Camaro.
After reading threads throughout this board, I already contacted Don at Champion and hope to be joining the ranks of SRT8 driving very soon!
Good day.....

Sorry to hear about your Goat. :( Those are sweet rides. Good thing you're ok, though. Now you can finish your journey to the Dark Side. :D
I joined the MOPAR ranks from many years of being a die-hard GM guy myself. And it looks like I am here to stay. While I actually like the looks of the new Camaro ok, the Challenger is where it's at for me.

Thanks for the reply and support. Good to know - Both the Challenger, even the Charger (subtract 2 doors), and the new Mustangs have got great designs. GM needs to fire their entire design staff and sway some of the designers from Dodge and Ford over. They are loosing business everyday IMO.
The Jeep really seems to fit what our family (and Daddy) wants.....maybe not "needs". Thankfully - and this is very unusual for someone to say, glad to see a limited amount of aftermarket performance parts available right now. My checkbook and WIFE, appreciates that! Good to be on board....no pun.
Thanks,
Mark
