Hello,
My father who is in a wheelchair just purchased a 08 4x4 Overland to replace his 99 Limited. The location of the handles and his age are making it alittle harder to transfer from his chair to the vehicle than the 99 was. I have found some springs that claim to lower the vehicle by 1.2 inches. Wondering what the stance of the vehicle lowered would be compared to the srt8. We are in the dairy and beef business and sometimes get into some bad spots so we don't need a low rider. I thought if maybe the 1.2 inch drop would be close to what a stock srt8 is we could find one at a dealership and he could see if the spring would help that much.
Thanks for any help.

I would not reccomend the SRT-8 to anyone in a wheelchair. The stock suspension is designed for cornering and handling (hard to believe in an SUV but it works well), with this in mind, the ride is considerably rougher/stiffer than in a typcial luxary vehicle. The stock runflat EMT tires also make the ride more jarring, as well as the 20" low aspect ratio tires.
If your father were to inadvertantly floor it, believe it or not, these vehicles launch hard enough to give someone whiplash.
The seats have much larger side bolsters than an Overland, making it difficult to move laterally into it... its designed to keep your butt in place while cornering, not for easy entry.
If i were you I'd keep the Overland and go to a good local suspension shop and have the vehicle lowered 2-3 inches. SRT-8 are not reccomended for off-roading of any sort. The front air dam doesn't even clear an 8" parking barrier, you'd be replacing body panels the first bumpy road you took it down.

I would put your Jeep on air bags. You can drop it on the ground for him to get in then raise it right back up to stock height once he is in with the flip of a switch. And it is a soft smooth ride.
Sorry for not making it clearer....not wanting to trade, just compare.
We are just wanting to compare the stock height 4x4 Overland to the stock height SRT8. It is hard to tell the height of the vehicle with all the ground effects. Believe me.....that airdam wouldn't make it past to many bull holes before it became a dumpster item. :D

I second the airbags..much more comfortable AND you can have it dropped up & down when needed

Sill Step Height 20.1 (511.5 mm)
Ground Clearance Chassis (fuel tank) 8.5 (215.9 mm)
Front axle 7.5 (190.5 mm)
Rear axle 7.0 (177.8 mm)
Wow... you don't get much better information than that... somebody should buy him a Hershy Bar!
Thanks........that helps.

x3 on the bags, seems like the best solution.
however for a good install it would run about $5000
