Anything special in removing the stock shift knob...I figured it would just twist off, but mine won't budge!!!

I just got my new shift knob. Looks great and it was shipped very quickly.
I just have one problem though. I can turn my lower knob 1/4 turn (after much elbow grease) but the knob still won't budge. Any ideas?

twgcsrt8,

I experienced the same problem. Just as you get to the end of the 1/4 turn, it feels as if the base ring clicks into a stop point. You've gone just a little to far. Try it again from the start and stop turning the ring just short of the click at the end. Knob should lift off easily, straight up.

Hope this helps.

I wrapped mine with a cloth and then used a pair of pliers. Popped right off. It might have been Teda that recommended that, can't recall.

I did the same. Actually taped the bottom of mine with electrical tape and then put some channel locks on it. 1/8th to 1/4 turn (can almost feel it) and then pulled it straight off.

Love my new SRT8 by the way - super job Chris.

I tried wrapping it with a rag and using channel locks but couldn't get a good feel for it so then I ditched the rag and just grabed it with the pliers and then I had some feel for what I was doing.Sitting in the passenger seat you want to turn the pliers toward the dash.Do it slowly while you keep pulling straight up on the knob and it should pull right off.I only had one little mark on the lower ring when all was said and done. And yes Chris does a great job.
