: great run against a GC srt8....two surprises

I own both a 300C srt8 and an STS-V. Yesterday evening, saw a beautiful, black GC srt8 on the freeway. Since there was too much traffic to have any fun, I just pulled next to him and gave him a big thumbs up. He did the same...

Got off my exit a few miles later and he was there at red light, all by himself. He was a really nice guy..I asked how he liked the srt8 and of course he said it was GREAT. I told him I had an srt8 as well (300C). I told him I know those things are awesome from a dig... Since we had a perfect set up (two lanes, no traffic, nice pavement, etc) I asked if he wanted to run and see how bad he'd take me off the line, which I knew he would. He was very moddest..said he wasn't sure but lets see.

Two mild surprises:

1. I was pretty sure he'd pull at least a couple lengths to start due to great traction (AWD). He did start about a 1/2 car, but the STS-V evened it out very quickly. (I hit a great launch with minimal spin)

2. I thought the sts-v would pull a length or two by the time we got to 90 MPH (where we had to let off due to traffic). It did not. Those two vehicles were literally side by side..neither able to seperate.

What fun. I just told him "wow--that thing moves" afterward. He said the same.

I still suspect if we'd have kept going, the sts-v would have eventually pulled ahead...but who knows.

love those things...:)

I have never ran against a STS-V, but the CTS-V's are inferior.

Looks like the STS-V has a little more juice under the hood, eh:

I didn't realize there was a ramped-up Caddy, have to show my old man that. He has a DTS with the performance package, along with an ML500, and he knows better than to run those against my truck! :D

Looks like a cool ride and fun run, though. :)

How do you think the 300 SRT8 would run against the GC SRT8?

bout the same. I think the caddy is a bit quicker 0-60 than my srt8, but the srt8 catches up AT LEAST even, maybe better, in thew 1/4

Sounds like the driver in the Jeep need'd to brush up onhis launches

"brush up on his launches"

Dude...be real, he hung even with a 469 hp, 439lb/TQ vehicle that runs consistent low 13s at the track.

I would consider that a mild upset..he did great. Remember, I nailed my launch..minimal tire spin

I'm with you on that one, you're also 500 lbs. lighter, eh? I always liked STS', my old man had one of the first ones to hit the market in the 90's, and that car, while nowhere near the specs of yours, was a pavement eater!

I was considering buying a vanilla STS until I saw the GC STR8 at an autoshow... Still remember seeing the GC for the first time, not knowing it existed, they had it tucked way in the back and it caught my eye, and I thought 'what the hell is that?!' Next thought: 'oh, it's my next ride!!' :D

Turns out I was in Michigan last week, ran my GC SRT8 from Minnie to Toronto+. Pleased to see Detroit's cleaned up I-94 quite a bit! Took the Northern route back through Mackinaw/The U.P. Really nice drive. And really nice to have to the SRT8 for that run, too. Lots of 2-lane highway, and plenty of juice to pass with! :D

You're right on how hard these things dig, it's impressive! I went for a run in a Vette running nitrous last week, and it didn't throw me back in the seat the way the GC SRT8 seems to...

Got to say I love my Jeep, but I'm also a big fan of cars in general, and your ride sounds pretty sweet! Enjoy. :)

OK, this does not add up.....
I raced a STS-V from 60-140mph (our weak spot) & slowly left him.....repeated it, same result. (had the Supercharged emblem on the side).
They have more HP, less weight, what gives?
He should have pulled me, but no!
Finally he slowed to 55mph, rolled his window down & yelled "That's one bad-ass Jeep", thumbs up & went our ways.

You never know, the GC driver may just be some clueless guy who doesn't understand that he needs to turn off traction control from a dig.

You can lose quite a bit of power with it enabled from a dig.

How hot was it? I know our Jeeps are prone to heat soak, but with the STS-V being supercharged, it may be more affected by heat soak than we are.
